Job summary

BURNCO Rock Products Ltd in Calgary is seeking a Cybersecurity Student for a 4-month work term starting May 2027 at our Calgary head office. You will monitor security threats, assist with incident response, and support vulnerability management in a collaborative, enterprise environment.

The role offers hands-on exposure to security monitoring across endpoints, networks, and cloud services, plus opportunities to develop practical skills with CrowdStrike, Defender, Qualys, and IAM concepts.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related field
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office 365 and Windows server operating systems
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
• Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles, security monitoring, and incident response is an asset
• Exposure to cybersecurity tools and platforms such as CrowdStrike, Microsoft Defender, Qualys, or similar technologies is an asset
• Basic knowledge of networking, cloud security, and identity and access management (IAM) is an asset

Responsibilities

• Monitor security alerts, investigate potential threats, and identify security incidents across enterprise security platforms
• Investigate, contain, and remediate cybersecurity incidents, including malware, phishing, and unauthorized access
• Review and prioritize vulnerabilities and support remediation efforts with internal stakeholders
• Investigate and respond to phishing, suspicious emails, endpoint threats, and malicious network activity
• Support security monitoring and investigations across endpoint, network, DNS, and web security environments
• Improve security operations through alert tuning, automation, tool optimization, and development of SOC runbooks
• Maintain accurate documentation of security incidents, investigations, procedures, and security metrics
• Collaborate with Cyber GRC, Network, Server Infrastructure, and other teams to implement security controls, support compliance activities, and improve overall security posture

We are #hiring a Cybersecurity Student for a 4-month work term commencing May 2027, based out of our Calgary head office. You will support the cybersecurity team by monitoring security threats, investigating and responding to incidents, helping identify and address vulnerabilities, and supporting security improvements.
