Job summary

BURNCO is hiring two Corporate Accountants at our Calgary head office to strengthen financial reporting and analysis.

You will partner with the Manager, Financial Reporting, delivering accurate monthly, quarterly and annual reporting, while driving process improvements and cross-functional collaboration to support decision-making.

This role offers a path toward CPA designation, exposure to Oracle Cloud, Essbase, and Smart View, and a culture focused on safety, growth, and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • CPA designation or active progression toward CPA.
  • Hands-on experience in a finance or accounting role.
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud or other ERP systems.
  • Experience with Oracle Essbase and Smart View.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; intermediate Excel skills required.
  • Understanding of ASPE is an asset.
  • Exposure to Power BI or willingness to learn.
  • Strong communication and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly financial reporting package and support timely management reviews.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts with variance analysis, ensuring ASPE compliance.
  • Maintain and analyze monthly prepaid expense schedules and amortization entries.
  • Prepare and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries.
  • Assist with quarterly and annual financial statements and MD&A notes.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to streamline month-end close and improve processes.
  • Support external auditors during interim and year-end audits.
  • Provide ad-hoc financial analyses and reports to departments.

You will assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting and be a key member of the team, providing detailed analysis of key business drivers. Working closely with the Manager, Financial Reporting, you will collaborate cross-functionally to improve processes and provide ad-hoc financial analysis to support decision-making.

What you will be doing
  • Assist in preparing and delivering the monthly financial reporting package to support timely management reviews
  • Manage, maintain, and reconcile all balance sheet accounts with comprehensive variance analysis, ensuring compliance with ASPE
  • Maintain and analyze monthly prepaid expense schedules, ensuring accuracy and recording monthly amortization entries
  • Prepare and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries with keen attention to detail
  • Complete and submit required statistical government surveys accurately and on schedule
  • Support the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements, including detailed note disclosures and Management’s Discussion and Analysis (MD&A) narratives
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to gather financial data, streamline month-end closing processes, and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency
  • Work closely with external auditors during interim and year-end audits to facilitate a smooth audit process
  • Provide ad-hoc financial analyses and reports to various departments and stakeholders to aid decision-making
What we would like from you
  • A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • A CPA designation or active progression toward a CPA designation - we are looking to hire one designated CPA and one candidate currently working toward their designation
  • Hands‑on experience in a finance or accounting‑focused role
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud or other ERP systems
  • Experience with Oracle Essbase and Smart View
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; intermediate Excel skills are required, with advanced skills considered an asset
  • Understanding of ASPE (Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises) is considered an asset
  • Exposure to data visualization tools such as Power BI, or a willingness to learn
  • Ability to communicate financial concepts clearly, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to independently manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • A continuous‑improvement mindset, with an interest in improving processes and leveraging automation to increase efficiency and reduce errors
  • Strong ownership, accountability, and proactive problem‑solving skills
  • Sound judgment and critical‑thinking skills, with the ability to analyze complex situations and make informed decisions
  • A clear and transparent communication style, using facts and evidence to build trust and foster productive dialogue
Location and other key details:
  • This is a full-time permanent position based out of our Calgary Corporate Office
  • The hours of work will be Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week with occasional additional hours as required
