Job summary

Umbrella Family is seeking an RECE Before and After School Educator to join our Hamilton team. This permanent, part‑time role supports children and families by delivering developmentally appropriate programming, healthy snacks, and safe, welcoming environments.

You will work 27.75 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with shifts from 7:00am–9:30am and 3:15pm–6:00pm, at Viola Desmond Centre. The position offers an inclusive workplace, competitive pay, and opportunities to grow within a collaborative

Qualifications

• ECE Diploma and in good standing with the College of ECEs.
• Experience in a childcare setting.
• Knowledge of How Does Learning Happen?
• Experience in program planning for JK/SK and school‑aged children.
• Strong problem-solving, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Flexibility to adapt to various responsibilities and schedules.

Responsibilities

• Greet children and families with warmth and professionalism.
• Support children as they transition into the program, aiding self-regulation and social engagement.
• Engage children in meaningful activities using a programming cart of materials.
• Provide healthy morning snacks and ensure proper handwashing.
• Help children tidy up and prepare for their day, including outdoor play as appropriate.
• Set up and facilitate activities aligned with How Does Learning Happen?
• Supervise snack and ensure all children eat safely.
• Provide indoor and outdoor play opportunities and support children’s interests.
• Monitor children’s behaviour and offer guidance and support as needed.

About the Role

As an RECE Before and After School Educator, your primary responsibility is to be present for children and their families while developing and implementing programs that meet their developmental needs and interests. You will create meaningful play experiences, provide healthy snacks, supervise outdoor and indoor activities, and ensure the safety and well-being of children in your care.

Duties vary by centre, but your role always includes supporting children, assisting colleagues, and contributing to a welcoming and well-organized environment.

Qualifications

• Early Childhood Education Diploma (ECE) and member in good standing with the College of ECEs
• Related experience in a childcare setting
• Demonstrated knowledge and working ability to effectively interact with children requiring behavioural guidance
• Demonstrated knowledge of How Does Learning Happen?
• Experience in program planning and implementation for JK/SK and school-aged children
• Excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
• Flexibility to adapt to a variety of responsibilities and schedules
• Passion for supporting children, families, and colleagues in a positive, team-focused environment

Certifications

• Good standing and active registration with the College of ECE
• Standard First Aid with CPR Level C
• Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check
• Proof ofup-to-date immunizations(TB, Tetanus, MMR)
