Job summary

WSP in Sudbury, Ontario is seeking an Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer to contribute to transportation, municipal, industrial, and land development projects. You’ll provide geotechnical expertise from site investigations through design and construction support.

Ideal candidates have hands-on geotechnical experience, a geology/geotechnical/civil engineering degree, and progression toward or attainment of an Ontario P.Eng. designation, with proficiency in SLOPE/W, Settle3, PLAXIS, and field work.

Qualifications

• Hands-on geotechnical engineering experience in transportation, municipal or site development.
• Degree in Geological, Geotechnical, or Civil Engineering; progression toward (or attainment of) Ontario P.Eng.
• Willingness to conduct field work and site investigations.
• Proficiency with geotechnical modelling software (SLOPE/W, Settle3, PLAXIS).
• Motivated to deliver practical engineering solutions that strengthen communities.

Responsibilities

• Deliver clear, technically sound analyses and recommendations for transportation, municipal, industrial, and land development projects.
• Prepare geotechnical reports, design briefs, and construction-phase guidance to support project delivery.
• Collaborate with structural, civil, environmental, and materials teams to integrate geotechnical insight.
• Conduct site visits, field reviews, drilling oversight, and QA/QC of field programs.
• Apply geotechnical software to evaluate soil-structure interaction and optimize outcomes.
• Contribute to sustainable design approaches reducing environmental impact and improving resilience.

WSP is seeking an Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer to join our growing team in Sudbury, Ontario. In this role, you will contribute to a diverse range of transportation, municipal, industrial, and land development projects, providing geotechnical expertise from initial site investigation through to design and construction support.

• Contribute to sustainable design approaches that reduce environmental impact and improve long-term resilience.

The Skills That Set You Apart

• Several years of hands‑on geotechnical engineering experience supporting transportation, municipal, or site development projects.
• A degree in Geological, Geotechnical, or Civil Engineering, and progression toward (or attainment of) a P.Eng. designation in Ontario.
• Comfortable conducting field work, geotechnical investigations, and construction‑phase reviews.
• Proficient with tools such as SLOPE/W, Settle3, PLAXIS, or equivalent geotechnical modelling software.

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $77,400 - $102,500

MB & ON: $70,600 – $97,200

NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $69,900 – $92,900
