Job summary

WSP is looking for a highly motivated Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer to join their Ground Engineering and Materials Team in Dartmouth, NS. This position involves a mix of field assignments and office-based analysis on various geotechnical projects across Atlantic Canada.

The ideal candidate will lead field programs, analyze geotechnical data, and prepare technical reports while mentoring junior staff and supporting multidisciplinary teams. A strong background in geotechnical engineering and a minimum of five years of relevant experience are required.

Qualifications

• P.Eng. registration in Nova Scotia is preferred.
• Five years of experience required in Geotechnical Engineering.

Responsibilities

• Lead and participate in field programs including borehole drilling and instrumentation installation.
• Analyze geotechnical data to develop foundation recommendations.
• Prepare technical reports including investigations and construction documentation.
• Provide support to multidisciplinary teams for innovative solutions.
• Mentor junior staff in field methods and safety practices.
• Build client relationships through reliable engineering advice.

Skills

Technical Engineering or Civil Engineering with a geotechnical focus

Registered, or eligible for registration, as a P.Eng.

Minimum five years of experience as a Geotechnical or Geological Engineer

Valid Canadian driver’s license

Intermediate level consulting experience in geotechnical engineering

Strong analytical abilities and project management capability

Familiarity with geotechnical software such as GeoStudio

Experience interpreting soil and rock conditions

Ability to critically assess geotechnical analysis outputs

Willingness to work on project sites as required

• Analyze geotechnical and geological data to develop recommendations for foundations, retaining structures, earthworks, pavements, and slope stability.
• Prepare clear, defensible technical reports such as investigations, design briefs, and construction documentation.
• Provide geotechnical input to multidisciplinary teams and support innovative, data driven solutions.
• Mentor junior staff in field methods, analysis techniques, and safety practices.
• Build strong client relationships through responsive, reliable engineering advice.
• Support quality assurance processes, project coordination, and continuous improvement in geotechnical practice.

The Skills That Set You Apart

• Technical Engineering or Civil Engineering with a geotechnical focus.

Compensation

• AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YK: $89,800 – $118,900
• MB & ON: $81,900 – $112,800
• NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $94,100 – $124,900
