Job summary

WSP is seeking an Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer to join our Sudbury, Ontario team, contributing geotechnical expertise from site investigations through design and construction support across transportation, municipal, industrial and land development projects.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver technically sound analyses, reports, and guidance, while advancing sustainable design and resilience in our projects.

Qualifications

• Degree in Geotechnical, Geology, or Civil Engineering with relevance to practice.
• Progress toward or attainment of a P.Eng. designation in Ontario.
• Experience with site investigations and geotechnical design is required.

Responsibilities

• Deliver technically sound analyses and recommendations for transportation, municipal, and land development projects.
• Prepare geotechnical reports, briefs, and construction-phase guidance.
• Collaborate with structural and civil teams to integrate geotechnical insights.
• Perform site visits, drilling oversight, QA/QC of field programs.
• Apply geotechnical design software to evaluate soil-structure interaction.
• Contribute to sustainable design and resilience in projects.

WSP is seeking an Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer to join our growing team in Sudbury, Ontario. In this role, you will contribute to a diverse range of transportation, municipal, industrial, and land development projects, providing geotechnical expertise from initial site investigation through to design and construction support.

Your Impact

• Deliver clear, technically sound analyses and recommendations that guide major decisions for transportation, municipal, industrial, and land development projects.
• Prepare geotechnical reports, design briefs, and construction- phase guidance to support successful project delivery.
• Collaborate with structural, civil, environmental, and materials engineering teams to integrate geotechnical insight into multidisciplinary designs.
• Conduct site visits, field reviews, drilling oversight, and QA/QC activities to ensure accuracy and safety of field programs.
• Apply geotechnical design software and numerical modelling tools to evaluate soil-structure interaction and optimize project outcomes.
• Contribute to sustainable design approaches that reduce environmental impact and improve long-term resilience.

The Skills That Set You Apart

• Several years of hands‑on geotechnical engineering experience supporting transportation, municipal, or site development projects.
• A degree in Geological, Geotechnical, or Civil Engineering, and progression toward (or attainment of) a P.Eng. designation in Ontario.
• Comfortable conducting field work, geotechnical investigations, and construction‑phase reviews.
• Proficient with tools such as SLOPE/W, Settle3, PLAXIS, or equivalent geotechnical modelling software.
• Motivated by delivering practical engineering solutions that strengthen communities.

Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $77,400 - $102,500

MB & ON: $70,600 – $97,200

NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $69,900 – $92,900
