Job summary

BBA Consultants in Calgary invites an experienced Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer to lead technically demanding projects across the mining, oil sands, hydroelectric and heavy civil infrastructure. You will manage the full scope of engineering assignments and help grow geotechnical services across the Canadian Prairies.

Alberta's energy, mining and heavy-civil markets are rapidly evolving, requiring strong leadership in geotechnical design, reporting, and client collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or geotechnical engineering
  • At least 10 years of experience in geotechnical projects
  • Professional Engineer status, registered with the APEGA, with ability to register in other Canadian provinces or territories
  • Proficiency with RS2, RS3, SLIDE, SETTLE3, SLOPE/W, SEEP/W and other geotechnical software
  • Strong client, contractor and subcontractor management experience
  • Proven track record delivering technical solutions that support business development
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites across Alberta and the rest of Canada

Responsibilities

  • Provide early-stage technical review and risk management for tailings, dam and mine-infrastructure projects
  • Lead geotechnical engineering evaluations and assessments
  • Prepare and manage site investigation plans
  • Manage geotechnical projects, from proposal through to delivery
  • Perform terrain hazard assessments
  • Perform dam and tailings facility design
  • Perform seepage and slope stability analyses for rock and soil
  • Perform underground design and provide construction supervision
  • Design and oversee geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring programs
  • Provide expertise in geotechnical and subsurface infrastructure solutions
  • Lead the production of geotechnical reports, specifications and drawings
  • Manage clients, contractors and subcontractors
  • Prepare and review geotechnical reports
  • Mentor and coach junior team members
  • Use your technical expertise to support business development opportunities
