Job summary

BBA Consultants in Calgary, AB seeks an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer to support energy, carbon capture and chemical projects. You’ll work on design, calculations, and documentation while coordinating with engineers, technicians and clients.

Ideal candidates have 3–7 years of mechanical/piping experience, strong CAD skills (AutoCAD, SolidWorks), and a proactive, team‑oriented mindset. Occasional travel within Canada may be required.

Qualifications

  • Mechanical Engineering degree and APEGA registration (or eligibility).
  • 3–7 years in mechanical/piping engineering, energy/petrochemical/chemical sectors preferred.
  • Familiar with codes/standards; experience with pressure vessels and piping.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Navisworks and CAESAR II; MS Office knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Support proposals, engineering design, and plant/field project execution.
  • Provide technical input in conceptual design studies and reviews.
  • Prepare plans, specifications, and design details; review for compliance.
  • Collaborate with EITs, technicians, and drafters; guide and review work.
  • Monitor tasks for scope, budgets, and schedules; assist site activities.

About the Role

We are seeking a Mechanical & Piping Engineer to support proposals, engineering design, and the execution of plant and field projects — primarily within the Energy, Carbon Capture, and Chemical sectors. This role offers the opportunity to work on a variety of technically challenging projects, while gradually taking on more responsibility in client interaction and project coordination. This role is well-suited for an engineer looking to deepen their expertise while progressively broadening responsibilities. You’ll gain exposure to varied projects, develop client-facing experience, and contribute to a collaborative team working on impactful projects across Canada’s energy and industrial sectors.

  • Contribute to building and maintaining client relationships by understanding project needs and delivering quality work.
  • Participate in conceptual design studies and bring forward practical technical input.
  • Prepare and review plans, specifications, and design details.

  • Support the preparation of technical reports, tender packages, and specifications.

Your Qualifications:
  • Education & Membership: Mechanical Engineering degree and registration with APEGA (or eligibility).
  • Experience: 3–7 years in mechanical/piping engineering, ideally in energy, petrochemical, or chemical industries.
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with codes and standards; experience in pressure vessels, piping, and mechanical equipment selection/design; knowledge of material selection.
  • Software: Proficiency with MS Office; working knowledge of AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Navisworks, and CAESAR II.

  • Comfortable working independently and taking initiative.
