Job summary

BBA Consultants is seeking an experienced Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer to join our team. You will manage geotechnical assignments across mining, oil sands, hydroelectric and heavy civil infrastructure sectors and help grow our services across the Canadian Prairies.

This regular position in Alberta is based in our Calgary/Edmonton teams, with opportunities to travel to project sites across Alberta and the rest of Canada.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil or geotechnical engineering.
• At least 10 years of experience in geotechnical projects.
• Professional Engineer status, registered with the APEGA, with ability to register in other Canadian provinces or territories.
• Proficiency with RS2, RS3, SLIDE, SETTLE3, SLOPE/W, SEEP/W and other geotechnical software.
• Strong client, contractor and subcontractor management experience.
• Post-graduate degree in geotechnical engineering is an asset.

• Provide early-stage technical review and risk management for tailings, dam and mine-infrastructure projects.
• Lead geotechnical engineering evaluations and assessments.
• Prepare and manage site investigation plans.
• Manage geotechnical projects, from proposal through to delivery.

This opportunity is for a self-motivated, team-oriented Geotechnical Engineer with outstanding design and project management experience across the mining, oil sands, hydroelectric and heavy civil infrastructure sectors. You’ll manage the full scope of engineering assignments and help grow BBA's geotechnical and engineering services across the Canadian Prairies.

Alberta's energy, mining and heavy-civil markets are moving fast: oil sands operators are modernizing tailings and dam infrastructure, mining clients are expanding critical-mineral projects and the province's decarbonization push is creating new geotechnical challenges every week. BBA's Calgary and Edmonton teams are growing to meet this demand, and we're looking for a self-motivated Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer who wants to be at the centre of it.

• Provide early-stage technical review and risk management for tailings, dam and mine-infrastructure projects


• Lead geotechnical engineering evaluations and assessments


• Prepare and manage site investigation plans

Summary Of Certifications And Job Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in civil or geotechnical engineering


• At least 10 years of experience in geotechnical projects


• Strong background in soil mechanics, rock mechanics and rock engineering


• Professional Engineer status, registered with the APEGA, with the ability to register in other Canadian provinces or territories


• Proficiency with RS2, RS3, SLIDE, SETTLE3, SLOPE/W, SEEP/W and other geotechnical software


• Strong client, contractor and subcontractor management experience


• Proven track record delivering technical solutions that support business development


• Excellent written and spoken communication skills


• Ability and willingness to travel to project sites across Alberta and the rest of Canada


• Asset: post-graduate degree in geotechnical engineering
