Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is a leading nuclear engineering group in Canada seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer with 8+ years in steel and concrete structures for nuclear or industrial facilities. The role emphasizes seismic analysis, design calculations, and compliance with safety codes, with opportunities to mentor juniors and contribute to major projects.

You will work in a collaborative team, applying ANSYS, SAP2000, STAAD Pro, and related tools, and participate in reviews and plant walkdowns as required.

Qualifications

• Civil Engineering degree from an accredited University with minimum 8 years of structural analysis and design experience in steel and concrete structures in Nuclear Power Plants and/or industrial buildings.
• Licensed in a professional engineering organization recognized in Canada; Ontario PE preferred.
• 3 to 5 years of site or field experience in Nuclear Power Plants and/or industrial buildings is an asset.
• Experience with static, dynamic and seismic analysis of structures and foundations.
• Knowledge of modification process of Nuclear Power Plant; ECC process or similar is an asset.
• Adequate knowledge of established Nuclear QA guidelines, procedures, knowledge of applicable nuclear safety codes and regulations is an asset.

• Deliver all engineering deliverables on time and within budgets.
• Provide technical instructions to junior staff or designers.
• Review and comment on work to ensure accuracy and quality of information.
• Participate in engineering design reviews and plant walkdowns as needed.

Overview

Your role

• Perform structural analysis, seismic qualification and assessment, structural design, and ageing management.
• Prepare engineering design calculations for structural systems involving steel, reinforced concrete and masonry and prepare design documents and compile engineering packages.
• Analyze structural systems and elements as required using Analysis Software programs using ANSYS, SAP2000, STAAD Pro, SSASI and other structural programs.
• Ensure Compliance with applicable Codes, Standards and Regulations, and ensuring the adequacy of design for permits and compliance with approved plans.
• Accountable for the delivery of all engineering deliverables/task to achieve project objectives within specified timelines and budgets.
• Provide technical instructions to Junior staff or designers to develop engineering documentation.
• Review and comment on the work performed by others to ensure accuracy, completeness and quality of technical information and design documentation.
• Participate in formal engineering design and other reviews as may be mandated for the design changes in question.
• Perform plant walkdowns as and if required in support of design requirements definition and detailed engineering of design modifications.

About you

• Civil Engineering degree from an accredited University with minimum 8 years of structural analysis and design experience in steel and concrete structures in Nuclear Power Plants and/or industrial buildings. Master’s degree and above is an asset.
• Must be Licensed in a professional engineering organization recognized in Canada. Preferably registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
• 3 to 5 years of site or field experience in Nuclear Power Plants and/or industrial buildings is an asset.
• Must have experience with static, dynamic and seismic analysis of structures and foundations.
• Knowledge of modification process of Nuclear Power Plant; ECC process or similar is an asset.
• Adequate knowledge of established Nuclear QA guidelines, procedures, knowledge of applicable nuclear safety codes and regulations is an asset.
