Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a qualified Piping Design Engineer to join their team in Mississauga, Canada. The ideal candidate will prepare and review piping stress models and conduct seismic analysis while ensuring compliance with Canadian nuclear regulations.

This position requires a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a minimum of five years of relevant experience in the nuclear, oil & gas, or heavy manufacturing industries. Candidates must possess strong analysis skills and the ability to manage tight schedules.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in piping design and analysis.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in Ontario is highly desirable.
  • Good knowledge of nuclear facility mechanical/process systems.

Overview

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review piping stress models, perform seismic and non-seismic stress analysis/calculations in accordance with ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, Section III, Div. 1, CSA N285 and ASME B31.1 requirements.
  • Prepare and review nuclear and non‑nuclear piping support design and perform analysis/calculations using GT STRUDL, ANSYS or hand calculation in compliance with ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, Section III, Div. 1, CSA N285 and ASME B31.1 requirements.
  • Prepare and review design/stress reports for piping systems and supports.
  • Prepare and review design documents for CANDU systems of the nuclear power station e.g., design plan, design specifications, technical specifications, system classification list, design requirements and code classification.
  • Review piping GA, ISO, support drawings, flow diagrams/P&ID, DBOMs, SCL, and CCA.
  • Ensure orderly coordination including reviews of all design input and output documents at all stages.
  • Interface with customer engineering representatives and stakeholders as needed.
  • Provide prompt response and engineering resolutions on any critical engineering related matters.
  • Attend site visits and meetings, as required.
  • Ensure timely completion of engineering deliverables in accordance with applicable QA program, codes, standards, regulations, procedures with high emphasis on quality.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited university with a minimum of 5 years of experience in piping design and analysis (in nuclear industry an asset or in oil & gas, heavy manufacturing, or similar industries).
  • Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario and member in good standing is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience using standardized MathCAD calculations and FEA software such as PepS, GT STRUDL or ANSYS.
  • General working knowledge of nuclear facility mechanical/process equipment and systems.
  • Familiarity with mechanical/civil engineering drawings, stress reports and piping systems.
  • Familiarity with pressure boundary work, ASME Section III NF supports assessments, civil engineering assessments of anchor bolts & base plates is highly desirable.
  • Walk‑down and site‑work experience would be essential assets.
  • Good written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage and work effectively under tight schedules and budget.
  • Must be willing to become a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW), although this will not be a regular requirement of the job.
