Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Senior Nuclear Process Systems Designer in Mississauga to lead design and analysis for CANDU-related projects. You will prepare design calculations, reviews, and system classifications, and guide teams to meet project delivery requirements.

The role requires a mechanical/chemical/nuclear engineering degree, Professional Engineer in Ontario, and 12+ years of experience in nuclear process systems, with strong communication and leadership skills.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree from an accredited university and registered P.E. in Ontario.
  • 12+ years of experience in process-system design/analysis, preferably for CANDU plants.
  • Experience with nuclear procedures, standards and plant engineering activities an asset.
  • Proven leadership and ability to mentor engineers in a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide design solutions and assessments for new, updated and modified process systems, structures and components.
  • Prepare/review design documents for Nuclear Power Plants: calculations, specs, drawings, BOMs, system code classification.
  • Perform thermalhydraulic evaluations on complex systems.
  • Lead teams to meet project delivery requirements and schedule.
  • Prepare/review engineering quotations and tender evaluations.
  • Interface with internal and external stakeholders and provide technical guidance.

Overview

Your role

The qualified individual will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Provide design solutions and assessments for new, updated and modified process systems, structures and components.
  • Prepare and /or review design documents for Nuclear Power Plants; e.g., Design Calculation, Design Requirements, Assessments, Technical Specifications, Drawings, Bill of Materials, and System Code Classification.
  • Perform thermalhydraulic evaluations on complex systems.
  • Provide leadership to team on assigned tasks, ensure adherence to project delivery requirements and schedule.
  • Prepare and/or review Engineering Quotation Request and Tender Technical Evaluations.
  • Prepare and/or review Engineering packages.
  • Perform walkdowns, attend site visits and meetings as required.
  • Ensure applicable code, standards and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Ensure adherence to company quality program.
  • Provide support for the preparation of Engineering proposals.
  • Interface with internal and external stake holders as required.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and leadership to engineers.
About you
  • Engineering degree from an accredited University in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or Engineering Science.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in Ontario.
  • A minimum of 12 years of experience in process-system design/analysis, preferably providing design solutions for CANDU nuclear power plants.
  • Experience performing work to nuclear power plants procedures and practices and qualifications for nuclear power plants engineering activities is an asset.
  • Experience in nuclear process system design and layout.
  • Experience performing heat balance and thermalhydraulic evaluations.
  • Experience leading/mentoring teams.
  • Site experience in construction, or commissioning of plant mechanical systems for nuclear or other heavy industries is an asset.
  • Knowledge of analytical tools used for mechanical and process design (e.g., ANSYS, Mathcad, Flomaster, NUCIRC, CATHENA or similar).
  • Working knowledge of/experience using nuclear Codes and Standards, including CSA N285.0 and ASME Section III.
  • Working knowledge of/experience with the CSA B51 standard, ASME B31.1 codes and other nuclear-power-plant applicable standards or regulatory guides related to permanent plant components, pressure boundary equipment, and/or reactor systems.
  • Must have excellent communication and technical writing skills.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
