Job summary

Definity is seeking an Intermediate Subrogation Representative in Canada to investigate and negotiate recoveries from responsible third parties for property and auto losses across the country.

You will review claims, identify parties, prepare recovery determinations, and manage related litigation and settlements while coordinating with claims partners nationwide. Hybrid work is available with a focus on collaboration.

Qualifications

• AMF Personal insurance license (5b) and Commercial license (5a) are required.
• 3–5 years of claims handling experience, including subrogation, negotiation, and litigation.
• Bilingual in English and French (written and spoken).
• University degree or a 2-year college diploma; CIP designation is an asset.
• Proficient in Word & Excel; strong written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Review claims for subrogation potential and assess likely recovery outcome.
• Identify and pursue responsible third parties and insurers.
• Prepare files and determine recovery amounts from claims.
• Initiate settlement negotiations with third parties or lawyers.
• Manage subrogation-related litigation matters nationwide, including strategy and budgets.
• Participate in legal proceedings when required.
• Handle a high volume of files and subrogation projects.
• Support claims partners across Canada and raise subrogation awareness.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Intermediate Representative, Subrogation to join our team. If you have strong customer focus coupled with well-developed communication, organization, analytical and interpersonal skills, we'd like to know!

Reporting to the National Subrogation Unit Team Leader, the Subrogation Representative is accountable to investigate and negotiate the recovery owed to Definity from the responsible third parties. These types of claims will include personal and commercial property and auto losses received from claims offices across Canada.

What to expect

• Review and analyze claims for subrogation potential and determine the ultimate probable outcome of recovery
• Identify and pursue all potential responsible parties
• Prepare files and documents as well as determining the amount of recovery from the claims file
• Contact third parties, third party insurers or lawyers to initiate settlement negotiations
• Manage subrogation related litigation matters across Canada, including file strategy and budget
• Participation in legal proceedings when required
• Manage a large volume of claims files and other subrogation projects as needed
• Increase subrogation awareness and provide support to our claims partners across Canada

What you bring

• AMF Personal insurance license (5b) required and Commercial insurance license (5a) required.
• The Ideal candidates will have 3-5 years of claims handling experience, including subrogation, negotiation, and litigation, with preference given to those who have managed subrogation files.
• Must be bilingual in both written and spoken English/French
• University degree, a 2-year college diploma or working towards your CIP designation, would be an asset
• Proficient in Word & Excel
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Professional and courteous in all interactions
• Ability to work independently and make decisions quickly when required

Salary Range: $51,300 - $94,400

High degree of proficiency with English required to service customers, both internal to the company and external, across Canada.

Actual salary for the role may vary depending on work location of the successful candidate and other factors including but not limited to, skills, education, experience, working conditions and the local labour market.
