This position is within Cargill’s protein and salt business, delivering high-quality food products to diverse customers, including foodservice operators, grocery stores, manufacturers, and exporters.

The Instrumentation and Control Tech should be capable of troubleshooting various industrial instrumentation, including temperature, pressure, flow, analytical and level indicators, recorders, electrical controllers and sensors, density indicators, and sensors.

Responsibilities include interpreting, interacting with, repairing, and maintaining systems such as weight indicators and sensors, pH indicators and sensors, gas analyzers, SCADA systems, PLC systems (especially Allen Bradley), and other electronic and hydraulic control devices.

Shift: Rotating

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Provide troubleshooting expertise in automation, electrical, and instrumentation support for the plant.
  • Learn facility functions to enhance knowledge in automation, electrical, and instrumentation.
  • Support projects with programming and configuration expertise.
  • Manage troubleshooting tools and documentation.
  • Generate work orders and part numbers for SAP.
  • Track projects to completion, including documentation.
  • Adhere to all safety rules and maintain a safe, clean work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada; minimum age 18.
  • Instrumentation or Electrical Journeyman Certification or valid Alberta Apprenticeship.
  • Proficiency in English (verbal and written).
  • Physical ability to perform duties, including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, kneeling, climbing, crawling, and twisting, with or without accommodations.
  • Ability to work in varied indoor/outdoor conditions with PPE.
  • Ability to work at heights (4+ feet).
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, shifts, and holidays with notice.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Experience troubleshooting automation or instrumentation systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with SAP or CMMS.
  • Valid Canadian full Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of configuring and programming control systems including PLC and HMI (Allen-Bradley).
  • Three years of experience in Automation and Instrumentation.
  • Experience in food processing environments.
  • Experience with PLC, VFD troubleshooting, scales, printers, cameras, and scanners.
  • Knowledge of ControlNet, Device Net, Ethernet networks.
