The Vancouver Civic | Industrial Studio offers services for all phases of the project life cycle from pre-project planning through detailed design for engineering analysis studies, and construction documents for capital investment projects. Our team develops unique solutions for our clients that integrate people, materials, equipment, and information in productive ways, delivering practical solutions to complex industrial problems. The studio comprises architecture, industrial, structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, and project management disciplines, promoting an integrated design approach.

The Industrial Engineering team plays a crucial role in understanding client operations, defining future requirements, and developing efficient processes to inform facility design.

Your Opportunity

As a Mechanical Technologist, you will work with a team on multiple projects, participating in detailed design and construction administration for mechanical systems (HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Process Piping). This role is ideal for motivated individuals eager to challenge themselves in a dynamic environment.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Assist in calculation, selection, specification, and detailing of mechanical systems
• Coordinate mechanical system design within multidisciplinary teams
• Review own work for technical accuracy
• Utilize BIM technologies (2D and 3D) for modeling mechanical systems
• Prepare construction drawings/documents
• Ensure quality, consistency, and integrity of deliverables
• Collaborate with engineers and technologists to optimize project tools and resolve issues
• Assist with field reviews, shop drawing reviews, RFIs, and site documentation
• Provide preliminary drawings, sketches, and notes for projects
• Perform quality control on documents and contribute design ideas
• Design smaller projects with guidance from senior engineers
• Lead or improve workflows to enhance quality and efficiency

• Proficiency in AutoCAD and REVIT

Education and Experience

• Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent, with 5-6 years of experience; Technologist designation is an asset
• Ability to pass security clearance in Canada
