Job summary

Manitoba Chiefs seeks a Kiipewii’Chego Prenatal and Postnatal Support Worker to assist expectant mothers and families navigating the child welfare system in Manitoba. You will work under the Director of Children & Families to promote nationhood through cultural interventions and wraparound support.

Responsibilities include intake, case conferences, collaboration with Perinatal Support Worker, and mentoring staff. A strong knowledge of First Nations culture and child welfare policies is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor level education or combo with experience accepted.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience with Manitoba CFS system.
• First Nations Doula Training or equivalent recognized.
• Knowledge of First Nations cultural parenting practices.

Responsibilities

• Attend weekly case conferences and review client files.
• Complete intake process for new clients.
• Collaborate with Perinatal Support Worker to strengthen birth and family sovereignty.
• Establish relationships with collaterals and caregivers to support birth plans and reunification.
• Connect families to Elders and Knowledge Keepers to strengthen cultural identity.
• Connect families to resources to improve mental health and parenting skills.
• Advocate for meaningful contact between parents and children.
• Maintain up-to-date client records and adhere to confidentiality policies.
• Mentor and guide new/existing staff.
• Follow the 7 Sacred Teachings; perform other duties as assigned.
