The University of Manitoba’s School of Art Gallery is seeking an Indigenous Education and Outreach Coordinator for its Gallery. This part-time term position runs 21 hours per week, typically 9am–5pm, from October 13, 2026, to April 14, 2028.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • One year of directly related administrative experience.
  • At least four years’ experience working with youth, art students, adults or large groups in an educational or gallery setting.
  • Understanding of Indigenous cultures, protocols and community-based partnerships, and the ability to work respectfully with Elders and Knowledge Keepers.
  • Strong organizational, communication and computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver educational and public programs, including tours, workshops, artist and curator talks, and Indigenous programming initiatives, for schools, University classes, community groups and the public.
  • Build and sustain relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations, artists, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, schools and arts organizations.
  • Ensure cultural protocols are respected in Gallery programs, working in consultation with Indigenous artists, Elders and community partners.
  • Research Indigenous artists and artworks in the Gallery’s permanent collection and help develop related interpretive and educational resources.
  • Collaborate with the Office of the Vice-President (Indigenous) and other University units on Indigenous engagement and reconciliation initiatives.
  • Support Gallery events, grant applications, reporting and general operations.

Indigenous Education and Outreach Coordinator

The University of Manitoba’s School of Art Gallery is seeking an Indigenous Education and Outreach Coordinator for its Gallery. This is a part-time term position (21 hours/week, typically 9am–5pm, days negotiable) running October 13, 2026 to April 14, 2028.

Due to the significant cultural requirements of the role, this position is designated for Indigenous candidates. Applicants must self-declare as Indigenous (First Nation, Métis and/or Inuit) in their cover letter or resume.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and deliver educational and public programs, including tours, workshops, artist and curator talks, and Indigenous programming initiatives, for schools, University classes, community groups and the public
  • Build and sustain relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations, artists, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, schools and arts organizations
  • Ensure cultural protocols are respected in Gallery programs, working in consultation with Indigenous artists, Elders and community partners

  • One year of directly related administrative experience
  • At least four years’ experience working with youth, art students, adults or large groups in an educational or gallery setting
  • Understanding of Indigenous cultures, protocols and community-based partnerships, and the ability to work respectfully with Elders and Knowledge Keepers
  • Strong organizational, communication and computer skills

An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
