Overview

EleV Community Engaged Learning Coordinator is responsible for a program portfolio focused on Indigenous initiatives and programming to support Indigenous students at the University of Manitoba and Indigenous youth in the wider community. The role includes supporting Indigenous student staff in coordinating land-based education programming and facilitating safer spaces and community-building for Two-Spirit, Indigiqueer, and Indigenous LGBTQPIA+ students, with mentorship and supervision grounded in nation-specific Indigenous pedagogies and the Working in Good Ways framework. The position also connects Indigenous student staff with mentors and collaborators from the wider Indigenous community.

The CEL Coordinator identifies sustainable funding opportunities and programming models for existing EleV programming (e.g., Two-Spirits Talking and Land and Water), explores partnerships with Indigenous campus and community partners (including Leaf Rapids and Northern Manitoba) and with the Social Justice Hub in CEL, and develops a grant proposal for a second five-year program supporting Indigenous youth.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate a program portfolio focused on Indigenous initiatives and programming to support Indigenous students and wider Indigenous youth communities.
  • Support Indigenous student staff in coordinating land-based education programming and facilitating safer spaces and community-building for Two-Spirit, Indigiqueer, and Indigenous LGBTQPIA+ students.
  • Provide mentorship and supervision grounded in Indigenous paradigms and pedagogies; connect student staff with mentors and Indigenous community partners.
  • Identify sustainable funding opportunities and programming models for EleV programming; explore partnerships and projects with Indigenous campus and community partners.
  • Develop grant proposals for continued or expanded programming (e.g., a second five-year program).
Qualifications
  • THIS POSITION IS DESIGNATED FOR INDIGENOUS CANDIDATES. APPLICANTS MUST SELF-DECLARE ON THEIR COVER LETTER/RESUME AS INDIGENOUS (FIRST NATION, METIS AND/OR INUIT).
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle is required.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum two years' directly related experience in educational program coordination is required.
  • Experience facilitating or teaching Indigenous land-based education is required.
  • Experience developing and facilitating workshops is required.
  • Demonstrated experience working with First Nations and/or Métis communities and Indigenous organizations is required.
  • Existing campus and/or community connections and relationships with Indigenous communities are required.
  • Demonstrated experience in successful community consultation, proposal development, and grant writing is required.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and delivering sustainable programs is required.
  • Knowledge and experience with program assessment and evaluation is required.
  • Demonstrated experience mitigating and managing ethical and sustainability issues in Indigenous community engagement is required.
  • Experience working with budgets and spreadsheets is required.
  • Experience coordinating travel logistics is required.
  • Experience training, mentoring, and supervising junior staff is required.
  • Lived experiences reflecting the program portfolio is required.
  • Experience with student development theory, especially as it relates to Indigenous students, is preferred.
  • A thorough knowledge of student services offered at the University of Manitoba is preferred.
  • Must be able to quickly establish a strong and personal rapport with Indigenous students, community members, and partners.
  • Must have effective leadership skills, with the ability to supervise and mentor student staff.
  • Proven creativity, initiative, and effectiveness in creating programs and services that benefit Indigenous students and community partners are required.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, tact, and the ability to provide and receive constructive feedback.
  • Must be able to work well with others in collaborative environments.
  • Must have a caring, creative, and flexible approach to problem-solving and conflict resolution.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be reliable, self-motivated, and able to develop, plan and execute complex projects with limited supervision required.
  • Effective time management, record keeping, and organizational skills required.
  • Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality with respect to all communications and records to the extent protected under the law and statements of ethical practice is required.
  • Assessment and evaluation skills are required.
  • Risk management skills are required.
  • Proficiency with Apple and Windows operating systems and Microsoft 365 and Google Suite applications are required.
  • Knowledge of design and publishing programs is an asset, including Canva and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Must have physical stamina, ability to carry up to 50lbs, and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
