Job summary

Tetra Tech is seeking an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer for the Hydropower and Water Resources team in Canada. The role focuses on design, procurement, construction support, and commissioning of hydro-mechanical systems across projects in Canada under the direction of senior engineers.

You will contribute from feasibility to operation, mentoring junior engineers and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to manage risk, field inspections, and commissioning activities. A Canadian P.Eng.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
• Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada.
• Approximately 6-10 years of progressive mechanical engineering and project engineering experience.
• Demonstrated experience delivering hydropower and water resources projects.
• Experience with hydro-mechanical systems such as turbines, generators, penstocks, gates, hoists, etc.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian engineering codes (ASME, CSA) and hydro-mechanical equipment.
• Experience preparing calculations, reports, specs, procurement packages and tender documents.
• Willingness to travel periodically across Canada.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical engineering design and analysis for hydropower, dam, and water infrastructure projects.
• Develop mechanical layouts and design solutions for powerhouse equipment and hydro-mechanical components.
• Support selection, specification, and procurement of hydro-mechanical equipment.
• Prepare engineering calculations, design memoranda, specifications, and tender documents.
• Coordinate mechanical design activities with multidisciplinary teams.
• Provide engineering support during construction and commissioning, including RFIs and field inspections.
