Job summary

Actalent's engineering group in New Westminster, BC, seeks a Distribution Designer to design overhead and some underground electrical utility infrastructure. You will collaborate with stakeholders, prepare design packages, and review peers' work to ensure quality on infrastructure projects.

You'll leverage SPIDAcalc, PLS-CADD, and other software to validate designs, perform load balancing, and coordinate with clients.

Qualifications

Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent.
1–4 years design experience in overhead or underground utility distribution and/or telecom infrastructure.
Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

Design overhead electrical infrastructure according to client and national standards, with some underground design work.
Utilize SPIDAcalc non-linear pole line analysis tool for pole design and create innovative OH Line design solutions.
Employ underground cable pulling calculation software to validate design solutions.
Apply load balancing and fuse coordination software for distribution system improvements.
Develop designs for non-standard engineered solutions.
Prepare and submit design packages for various projects including Pole Replacement, Feeder Design, and more.
Review and check the work of peers to ensure quality standards.
Prepare construction packages and coordinate with clients and stakeholders.
Attend project meetings, conduct site inspections and reviews.
