SUMMARY:
The HVAC Mechanic operates, inspects, and maintains the facilities' heating, cooling, and ventilation systems to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for all patients, visitors, and staff. All work is carried out in accordance with established guidelines and standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Grade 12 education
- Certificate of Qualification as a Third Class Stationary Engineer or Refrigeration Mechanic
- Minimum four years on-the-job training and experience with high pressure boilers, large refrigeration equipment, pneumatic, electric, and electric/pneumatic control systems, generating equipment, and heating and air conditioning systems
- Verbal and reading skills necessary to read and understand blueprints and technical manuals pertaining to the operation and maintenance of equipment
- Ability to assess mechanical malfunctions and enact solutions independently
- Knowledge and operation of computerized building operation systems is essential
- Must possess knowledge in the operating and maintenance of water chilling equipment consisting of reciprocating and centrifugal refrigeration machines as well as heating equipment complete with high pressure boilers and ancillary equipment necessary for the conversion and transmission of energy to serve its particular needs
- Previous experience working within a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Some responsibilities include:
- Operates Computerized Building Automation System to monitor operating conditions, change set points, and troubleshoot problems
- Repairs and maintains heating and cooling piping systems and performs steamfitting duties such as setting and securing heating units and connecting traps, valves, and thermostats to pipe systems
- Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments for the proper operation of environmental systems and equipment
- Disassembles equipment and repairs or replaces faulty mechanical/electrical parts associated with refrigeration, power, heat, and cooling distribution systems in the hospital
- Performs related duties to ensure the cleanliness and general upkeep of specific equipment as assigned
- Responsible for maintaining inventory, including ordering supplies and arranging for service contracts
- Acts as a relief Stationary Engineer for the 2nd Class Shift Stationary Engineers whenever the need may arise, usually during periods of vacation or sickness
- Adheres to all safety regulations and maintains a good preventative maintenance schedule
- Performs and carries out other duties and assignments as directed by the Supervisor or other Maintenance management staff
- This position requires working at King St. and Charlton Ave campuses
WAGE RATE:
Hourly: $33.89, $34.57, $36.47
