Job summary

Western University in Ontario is seeking an HR Specialist within the Western Advancement Talent Management team. You will partner with division leaders to attract, develop, engage, and retain top talent for fundraising, alumni relations, and operations.

Responsibilities include workforce planning, talent acquisition, leadership development, and implementing people practices to enhance employee experience and organizational effectiveness across the division.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in HR, Business Administration or related field.
  • Completion of or working toward CHRL.
  • 5 years of HR and talent management experience, including full-cycle recruitment and sourcing.

Responsibilities

  • Advance Western Advancement's Talent Management strategy by partnering with division leaders.
  • Support workforce planning, talent acquisition, and employee development.
  • Improve recruitment processes and maintain a high-quality candidate experience.

Salary Grade: 14

The base salary will be $67,680 - $96,590 per annum. Starting salary will be aligned with the successful candidate’s experience, skills, and demonstrated qualifications.

About Us

The Western Advancement division plays a leading role in strengthening awareness of and support for the University’s mission and goals by leading alumni relations and fundraising efforts across campus and beyond. All departments within the Division build enduring alumni and public trust through understanding and support for Western University in a coordinated campus-wide effort that results in the engagement and funding needed to make an impact. There are 3 departments within the Division – Departments of Development, Alumni Relations and Advancement Operations.

The Advancement Operations department is a partner in the areas of constituent database and technology services, prospect management, research and pipeline, data analytics and storytelling, gift and pledge management, records and document management, and financial reconciliation and reporting. In addition, we provide support to the annual planning process as well as budget management, human resources and facilities support for Western Advancement.

An integral part of Advancement Operations, the People & Culture portfolio works in partnership with Western Human Resources to address strategies related to talent acquisition and recruitment, orientation and onboarding, learning and development, performance management and employee relations, as well as employee recognition and engagement. The portfolio works to ensure the Division is committed to its mission and values.

Responsibilities

The HR Specialist plays a key role in advancing Western Advancement's Talent Management strategy by partnering with leaders across the division to attract, develop, engage, and retain high-performing talent. The role serves as a trusted advisor on talent and workforce matters, supporting workforce planning, talent acquisition, employee development, and organizational effectiveness initiatives that enable the division to achieve its fundraising, alumni engagement, and operational goals. Through collaboration with leaders and Western Human Resources, the position helps foster a positive employee experience, build leadership capability, and implement people practices that strengthen employee engagement, performance, and long-term organizational success.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field
  • Completion of or working toward CHRL

Experience:

  • 5 years of experience in Human Resources and talent management, including full-cycle recruitment and talent sourcing
  • Experience recruiting in a fundraising environment preferred
  • Experience in a unionized environment preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of employment legislation and equitable hiring principles
  • Ability to build strong relationships with leaders and candidates
  • Ability to develop innovative sourcing strategies with a strong knowledge of best practices in recruitment and selection
  • Excellent project coordination and organizational skills with an ability to analyze recruitment metrics and identify trends
  • Ability to influence and coach leaders throughout recruitment processes
  • Knowledge of applicant tracking systems and HR information systems
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent recruitments while maintaining an exceptional candidate experience
  • Ability to work independently with a high attention to detail, and maintain direction and focus through proactive planning and organized approaches to work
  • Ability to produce high-quality results and workable solutions that meet client needs
  • Discretion, tact and maturity to deal with highly confidential subjects or issues
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and effectively communicate University guidelines, policies and practices to key stakeholders
