Urban Strategies Inc. is an urban design, planning and engagement consultancy with studios in Toronto and Hamilton, Ontario, and Vancouver, B.C. Position Summary

The Human Resources Manager (contract) is responsible for the day to day operations of the HR function in support of the overall business and is the first point of contact for all employee related items. This role reports to the Partner and CFO. This is a part-time position, with a minimum of three days in office required.

Responsibilities:

  1. HR Compliance and Health and Safety
    • In collaboration with the CFO, ensure and make recommendations on compliance with regulations and employment standards;
    • In collaboration with the JHSC Committee, ensure compliance with relevant health and safety legislation;
    • Participate in and support the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  2. Recruitment, Onboarding & Offboarding
    • Manage recruitment efforts, in collaboration with the management team;
    • Build relationships with reputable recruitment agencies;
    • Support Intern recruitment;
    • Manage contract administration and assist with onboarding plans for new hires;
    • Support employee offboarding including coordination of the employee exit survey & interview processes.
  3. Payroll & Benefits Administration
    • Benefits administration, including RRSP;
    • Maintain HR files including e-files and data maintained within the HRIS;
  4. Employee Relations
    • Provide management team with strategic guidance, resources, and insights to effectively navigate employee relations and resolve employee concerns and challenges;
    • Provide strategic guidance and administrative support of employee performance programs and assist in the development of employee growth plans;
    • Liaise with employees and committee chairs to facilitate access to professional development opportunities, ensure proper resourcing, and confirm participation;
    • Review and collaborate with the management team on maintaining updated position descriptions;
    • Support the evolution of Urban Strategies Inc. mentorship.
  5. Compensation Administration
    • Conduct annual salary analysis and benefits review.
  6. Other responsibilities include:
    • Oversee the HR Administrator;
    • Ad hoc support of management as needed.

Skills/Qualifications/Experience

• Have completed, or working towards, the CHRL designation with at least 5 years of HR experience with at least 2 years as an HR Manager;
• Strong understanding of labour laws and Health and Safety regulations in both Ontario and BC;
• Strong communicator who can present clearly and effectively verbally and in writing;
• Proven track record of employee engagement;
• Ability to work with all levels of the organization and maintain positive working relationships;
• Organized and efficient, process oriented, with strong time management skills;
• System implementation experience is a strong asset;
• Proficient in Microsoft office;
• Experience working with an HRIS. Experience working with Collage is a strong asset.
