Job description

We are an employee-owned, multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm serving clients across North America and beyond. Our team of engineers, scientists, technologists and support staff is dedicated to excellence in engineering and project management.

We believe a commitment to lasting relationships is just as critical as the expertise applied in our work. To us that means we put our people first. From professional development opportunities to an open, flexible and collaborative work environment, a career at KGS is like no other.

Working with us means you'll be part of some of the most interesting projects across Canada, the U.S. and beyond. We believe we set our own boundaries by what we’re willing to attempt and strive to push the limit on what’s possible. That's the KGS way.

The Role

As a Human Resources Generalist, you will act as a trusted partner to leaders and employees across the organization. This hands‑on role spans day‑to‑day HR support, program delivery, and continuous improvement across multiple jurisdictions.

You will support a wide range of HR functions including recruitment, onboarding, compensation, employee relations, performance management, and compliance. By putting people at the center of your work, you'll help employees build rewarding careers at KGS Group—while continuing to grow your own HR expertise.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with the Talent Acquisition Specialist on full‑cycle recruitment, including developing job postings, interview processes, and compensation recommendations
  • Coordinate and deliver onboarding activities to ensure new employees in Canada and the U.S. feel welcomed and set up for success
  • Manage employee relations matters and conduct investigations, offering guidance and coaching to leaders and employees on HR services and programs. This includes addressing performance improvement, progressive discipline, return‑to‑work plans, workplace accommodations, and absenteeism
  • Foster a positive employee relations climate by developing policies and programs that enhance employee satisfaction, implementing initiatives to assess workplace culture, promoting inclusive communication practices, and resolving employee concerns through effective policies, investigations, and counseling techniques
  • Support annual compensation and performance review processes, including leader guidance and employee communications
  • Contribute to wellness initiatives and social committee activities to promote a positive workplace culture
  • Assess and identify trends and propose solutions that will assist the HR leadership team in designing improvement strategies
  • Analyze and make independent recommendations regarding solutions to problems with varying complexity in accordance with organization objectives and guidelines
  • Provide support with strategic HR initiatives, including research & recommendations, ownership & participation in the development, implementation and maintenance of initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian employment legislation and collaborate with U.S. leadership to support compliance with applicable U.S. employment requirements (e.g., wage & hour, leave programs, workplace policies)
  • Collaborate with external HR partners or legal counsel as required for U.S. employee matters
About You
  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience with strong generalist capabilities
  • Post‑secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (HR certificate, diploma, or degree)
  • CPHR designation or currently working toward CPHR certification
  • Proven experience handling complex employee relations matters and performance management coaching
  • Demonstrated experience in full‑cycle recruitment, including developing interview questions and making compensation recommendations
  • Strong understanding of employment legislation and HR best practices; familiarity with U.S. HR practices is an asset, particularly in California and Washington
  • Highly organized and detail‑oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust across all levels of the organization
  • Proactive, solution‑oriented, and continuously looking for ways to improve processes
  • A positive, collaborative team player who is eager to take on new challenges
  • KGS Group is an employee‑owned equal opportunity company offering an excellent total compensation and benefits package for employees.
  • KGS Group is dedicated to fostering an inclusive, respectful and accessible workplace. We welcome applications from individuals of all abilities and are committed to providing accommodations, upon request, to ensure full participation in every stage of the recruitment and selection process.
