Job summary

SMS Security, a growing security services company in Toronto, is seeking an HR Generalist to partner with managers and employees across recruitment, employee relations, training and policy compliance. You will maintain HR programs, systems and processes to support regulatory obligations and build a positive workplace culture.

The role involves onboarding, training management, payroll coordination, and advising on HR policies, with a focus on engagement and retention.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of HR experience across recruitment, employee relations, training and compliance.
  • Undergraduate degree in business, HR or related discipline plus a Post Graduate diploma in HR.
  • CHRP certification preferred.
  • Experience with HRIS and LMS platforms.
  • Strong customer service mindset and urgency to meet stakeholder needs.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication; able to build relationships at all levels.
  • Advanced MS Office skills.
  • Self-motivated with high energy and discretion handling confidential matters.
  • Strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support recruitment activities including postings, screening, interviewing and onboarding.
  • Maintain HR records, metrics and documentation, and drive process improvements.
  • Manage HRIS records and generate reports for management.
  • Coordinate onboarding and orientation for new hires and ensure compliance.
  • Track mandatory training and manage LMS content and records.
  • Coordinate payroll-related onboarding and status changes.
  • Respond to employee inquiries and advise on HR policies and programs.
  • Support managers on employee relations with coaching and guidance.
  • Promote engagement, recognition and inclusive culture.
  • Conduct exit interviews and analyze trends to improve retention.
  • Assist with performance management processes for consistency and compliance.
  • Monitor leaves and accommodations with proper documentation and communication.
  • Ensure compliance with employment, health & safety, privacy and related laws.

Job description

SMS Security is a growing security services company headquartered in Toronto, proudly serving multi-residential condominium communities across the Greater Toronto Area. We provide guard services, installation and servicing of security systems, mobile patrol, and parking enforcement — and we’re scaling fast. We’re looking for a HR Generalist who is eager to grow with us and help build the programs, processes and culture that support our continued success.

The Role

In this role, you will be a trusted partner to managers and employees by providing support across recruitment, employee relations, training and development, policy administration and compliance initiatives.This role plays a key part in fostering an engaged workforce, maintaining HR programs, systems & processes and ensuring the organization meets its employment and regulatory obligations.

What You’ll Do
  • Assist with recruitment activities, including job postings, candidate screening, interview coordination, reference checks and onboarding.
  • Maintain accurate HR records, metrics and documentation while supporting continuous improvement in HR programs, systems & processes.
  • Maintain employee information within the HRIS records and generate regular and ad hoc reports for management.
  • Coordinate and facilitate employee onboarding and orientation programs to ensure positive employee experience and compliance with organizational requirements.
  • Monitor and track employee completion of mandatory compliance and role-specific training in accordance with the organization’s training matrix.
  • Support the implementation and administration of the Learning Management System (LMS) including maintaining training records, updating content and supporting the development of training materials.
  • Coordinate employee lifecycle activities with payroll including onboarding, status changes, leaves and terminations.
  • Respond to employee inquiries and provide guidance on HR policies, procedures and programs.
  • Support managers in addressing employee relations matters by providing coaching, guidance and recommendations on performance, attendance, conduct and workplace issues.
  • Promote employee engagement, recognition and inclusion initiatives that contribute to a positive workplace culture.
  • Conduct exit interviews, analyze trends and recommend improvements to enhance employee retention and engagement.
  • Support the administration of performance management programs and processes to ensure consistency and compliance across the organization.
  • Coordinate and monitor employee leaves and accommodations, including medical leaves, personal leaves, parental leaves and other legislated absences while ensuring appropriate documentation and communication.
  • Support organization compliance with employment, labour, health and safety, accessibility, privacy and other applicable legislation.
What We’re Looking For
  • 3 years experience in a HR role providing support in a number of functional areas
  • Undergraduate degree in business, Human Resources or related discipline & completion of Post Graduate diploma in HR
  • CHRP preferred
  • Intermediate knowledge and application of the Employment Standards Act, 2000, OHSA, Ontario Human Rights Act Demonstrated experience with HRIS and LMS platforms
  • Strong customer service mindset and sense of urgency to meet the needs of stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Advanced MS office skills
  • Self‑motivated, high energy and the integrity to deal with confidential matters with discretion
  • Advanced organizational skills

Salary Range:

$65,000-$80,000 plus eligibility for a discretionary incentive
