Position Overview
Working with the Vice President of Human Resources and the Payroll Manager, you will be responsible for providing a broad range of HR and Payroll related services.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Recruitment & On-Boarding
- Ensuring employee job descriptions are current
- Ensuring job posts are appealing to job seekers
- Post jobs, pre-screen, interview, and short-list candidates
- Conduct reference checks, criminal background checks, and provide offers
- Ensure all new employees have necessary certifications and training completed prior to starting
- Facilitate new hire orientation and onboarding
- Perform and document regular check-ins with all new hires
Employee Relations & Performance Management
- Support bi-annual performance reviews with managers
- Assist with employee survey completion and analysis
- Assist with all incident investigations
- Be the main point of contact for employee-related concerns
Payroll
- Liaise with payroll on compensation changes
- Support payroll department on an ad hoc basis
- Serve as backup for other HR and Payroll team members
Policy and Procedures
- Research industry best practices and update policies accordingly
- Ensure policies comply with federal and provincial laws
- Provide communication, training, and development regarding policies
Training and Development
- Stay current on trends and tools within employee development
- Maintain and report training records and statistics
- Coordinate necessary training with department managers
- Assist in building and administering Canstar-specific training courses (Canstar University)
- Manage training subsidy programs
Health and Safety
- Ensure adherence to health and safety practices and procedures
- Maintain good housekeeping for safe work environments
- Understand safety policies and protocols
- Ensure proper use of PPE on site
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- 2+ years in HR role
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources with related certification/diploma
- CPHR designation or candidacy is an asset
- Experience with payroll is an asset
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication
- Proven leadership, coaching, and mentoring abilities
- Knowledge of BCESA and WSBC acts
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite
- Effective verbal and written communication in English
- Ability to prioritize and work independently
- Ability to handle confidential information
- Empathetic personality with a positive attitude
- Industry knowledge of restoration or construction is beneficial
Working Conditions
- Primarily based in Edmonton office
- Monday – Friday, with flexible start/end times
- Some overtime may be required
