Job description

We're seeking an experienced HR Consultant who combines exceptional technical HR knowledge with sound judgment, professionalism, and a genuine passion for helping leaders make informed people decisions. This is a highly consultative role where you'll serve as the trusted subject matter expert on employment legislation, workplace policies, employee relations, and HR best practices.

If you have experience solving complex employee issues, and enjoys partnering with leaders to navigate challenging situations, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Do

You'll provide practical, compliant, and business-focused guidance across the entire employee lifecycle. You'll be the first call when managers need advice on sensitive employee matters, policy interpretation, or legislative compliance.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing expert guidance on employment legislation, including the Employment Standards Act (ESA), human rights, workplace accommodation, leaves of absence, and other employment-related legislation.
  • Advising leaders on employee relations matters, including performance management, progressive discipline, investigations, conflict resolution, and workplace concerns.
  • Supporting managers through performance improvement plans, coaching conversations, and documentation.
  • Providing guidance on terminations, restructures, severance considerations, and risk mitigation while ensuring legislative compliance.
  • Acting as the organization's internal expert on HR policies and recommending updates to align with evolving legislation and best practices.
  • Advising employees and leaders on benefits programs, disability management, return-to-work planning, short-term disability (STD), long-term disability (LTD), retirement programs, leaves, and accommodation processes.
  • Interpreting and applying company policies consistently while balancing legal requirements with business needs.
  • Developing HR resources, templates, and educational materials that help leaders confidently manage their teams.
  • Coaching managers to strengthen leadership capability and improve employee engagement.
  • Staying current on legislative changes and proactively identifying potential organizational impacts.
What You Bring
  • 7+ years of progressive Human Resources experience in a consultative HR Generalist, HR Business Partner, Employee Relations, or HR Consultant role.
  • Extensive knowledge of Ontario employment legislation, including the Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and related employment laws.
  • Demonstrated experience handling complex employee relations matters with confidence and discretion.
  • Strong understanding of performance management, investigations, accommodation, disability management, and termination processes.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
  • Outstanding communication skills with the ability to explain complex legislation in practical, easy-to-understand language.
  • Strong influencing and relationship-building skills across all levels of an organization.
  • A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with excellent judgment.
Who You Are

You're someone people naturally trust.

You don't rush to provide an answer-you ask thoughtful questions, assess risk, and provide practical recommendations grounded in legislation and best practices. You remain calm during difficult conversations, handle confidential matters with professionalism, and have the confidence to challenge thinking when necessary.

You're humble enough to listen, experienced enough to advise, and confident enough to guide leaders through some of their most difficult employee situations.

Why You'll Love This Opportunity

This is more than a traditional HR role- it's an opportunity to become the trusted advisor leaders rely on every day. You'll work on meaningful employee issues, influence organizational decisions, and make a real impact on workplace culture while partnering with an experienced leadership team that values strategic HR expertise.
