Job description

Working in partnership with the broader People portfolio, the Human Resources Business Partner will play a key strategic role in supporting the organization’s leaders in integrating Human Resources best practices and programs into their business. Core responsibilities will include advising, guiding, educating, and supporting an assigned client group in managing their human resources from both operational and strategic perspectives. The successful candidate will support client management decision-making with proactive advice and solutions designed to meet current and future business needs.

This is a network-wide position and the successful candidate may be assigned to work across any of our three sites: St. Joseph's Health Centre, St. Michael's Hospital, or Providence Healthcare. Remote work up to two days per week may be supported, subject to operational needs.

Responsibilities
  • Provide proactive Human Resource planning and advice within assigned program areas to support operational and workforce objectives.
  • Engage with HR subject matter experts and other support areas to offer a holistic approach to issue resolution, utilizing understanding of client businesses, issues, challenges, and metrics.
  • Support clients in addressing complex employee and labour relations issues, including collective agreement interpretation and employment legislation application.
  • Lead performance management processes and workplace investigations, including harassment investigations, and recommend resolutions/outcomes.
  • Support workplace restructuring and staffing change initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Union leadership to address employee issues and lead grievance responses.
  • Develop and implement HR training and education programs in collaboration with the HR team.
  • Support complex absence management, accommodations, disability, and return-to-work cases with Workplace Health, Safety and Wellness Services.
  • Participate in executing components of the People Plan to improve service delivery.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field, with a diploma or certificate in Human Resources Management.
  • Current membership with the Human Resources Professionals Association preferred.
  • CHRP designation or eligibility for candidacy preferred.
  • At least three years’ experience in HR providing independent employee and labour relations advice, especially in healthcare or similar complex unionized environments.
  • Experience in leading workplace investigations, including harassment cases.
  • Strong knowledge of legal principles related to Employee and Labour Relations, including collective bargaining, grievance arbitration, discipline, and performance management.
  • Solid understanding of HR policies, employment legislation (Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act).
  • Commitment to values-based, service-oriented, and collaborative partnerships.
  • Ability to build effective relationships at all organizational levels.
  • Self-directed with decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
