STATUS : Full-time (35 hours), 20-Month Contract

START DATE : August 18, 2025 (anticipated)

SALARY RANGE : $68,713 - $91,686 per annum

JOB PURPOSE :

Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, the Human Resource Advisor supports the University’s training, development and engagement strategy and ensures efficient HR operations. They perform a variety of generalist and administrative duties, and serve as a key point of contact for staff, faculty and student inquiries, while ensuring compliance with legislation, policies, and collective agreements.

KEY ACTIVITIES :

Training, Development & Employee Engagement

  • Support the development and continuous improvement of the University’s training, development, and engagement strategy.
  • Identify and implement effective training and engagement opportunities for all employee groups by applying research, industry best practices and insights from relevant professional networks. Assess program effectiveness and recommend improvements.
  • Coordinate staff and management training workshops including scheduling, registration management, room booking and communications.
  • Administer professional development programs including the OPSEU Career Development Program and Leadership Development Fund.
  • Foster strong relationships with internal and external partners to expand training opportunities (i.e. Student Support Certificate, EHRO, external providers).
  • Coordinate new employee orientation and work with the Manager, Human Resources, to enhance onboarding processes.
  • Coordinate and plan the annual Heart of Trent employee appreciation event, including organizing logistics, communications, programming, and day-of execution.

Human Resources

  • Support recruitment and staffing by providing advice, policy and process guidance, and participating on hiring committees.
  • Provide administrative support for the job evaluation process, including editing and formatting job descriptions.
  • Collaborate on the creation and revision of HR forms and documents to streamline processes, enhance accessibility and ensure legislative and policy compliance.
  • Troubleshoot employee HRIS access issues.
  • Oversee the management of general HR communications including the HR and Jobs email inboxes and office phone line.
  • Review and update the Human Resources website as needed.
  • Assist overall departmental operations, coordinate and implement projects, and perform other related duties, as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIRED :

  • Honours Bachelor’s Degree (4 year) in a related field; CHRP designation preferred.

EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED :

  • Two (2) years of Human Resources experience in a unionized environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Experience with an HRIS is an asset.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • A satisfactory Criminal Record Check (“Police Record Check”), dated within the past six (6) months is required as a condition of employment.

  • Provides guidance and direction to student employees.
