Job summary

Fort McMurray Catholic School Division seeks an Educational Assistant to support Grades 1–6 at Saint Gabriel Catholic School. The role is full-time with 25–31 hours per week, starting August 28, 2026 or ASAP, and closes August 30, 2026.

Responsibilities

• Support students' growth in cognition, communication, physical and social development.
• Support and/or implement teacher directed programming.
• Work collaboratively under guidance of teacher, CST and multidisciplinary team.
• Complete student or safety documentation as directed by supervisor.
• Implement specialist strategies (OT, PT, SLP, etc) to achieve goals.
• Implement behaviour management and educational strategies to facilitate student learning.
• Communicate effectively with students using age-appropriate positive reinforcements.
• Observe student behaviour to promote positive outcomes and mitigate negative ones.
• Provide structure to facilitate completion of learning outcomes.
• Assist students with adaptive learning technologies and communication devices.
• Support or implement the Positive Behaviour Plan if required.
• Swim program familiarity; ability to swim 50 meters, levels 1 and 2.
• Assist with medical procedures as needed (catheter, feeding, etc).
• Support modified curriculum and work with students with Autism or complex needs.
• Physically lift and transfer students when necessary; provide supervision.
• Follow health and safety requirements as directed.

• Provide support in use of adaptive and learning technologies using a variety of devices and associated programs, including for speech and non-verbal communication
• Successfully implement the Positive Behaviour Plan(PBP), if required
• Swim program, able to swim in 50 meters, level 1 and 2
• Medical Procedures - including, but not limited to, Catheter, Tube feeding, Feeding and swallowing support, toileting routines or diabetic monitoring may be required
• Able to understand, implement and support modified curriculum
• Able to work with and support students with Autism or complex medical needs
• Physically handle and transfer students when unsafe
• Physical ability to lift and move students
• Provide school directed indoor and outdoor student supervision
• Follow all relevant health and safety requirements as directed by supervisor
