Job summary

First Nations Financial Management Board (FMB) in Canada seeks an experienced Human Resources professional to advance HR services for First Nations communities. The role focuses on implementing HR practices, developing support plans, and delivering training to strengthen governance and financial management capabilities.

The successful candidate will lead HR initiatives, maintain records, and collaborate with a diverse team.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five years of HR experience; leadership experience is an asset.
  • CPHR designation preferred.
  • Experience using HRIS and Microsoft 365.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to travel including remote locations and outside regular hours.

Responsibilities

  • Build strong relationships with First Nations clients to support HR initiatives and training.
  • Meet with clients to understand HR needs and priorities.
  • Provide guidance, tools, and support for HR practices.
  • Develop HR support plans aligned with client goals.
  • Support performance management and succession planning.
  • Create and update job descriptions; assist with role changes.
  • Help establish processes for HR records management and protection.
  • Develop HR templates and tools, including forms and work plans.
  • Deliver training on HR practices, job design, and recordkeeping.
  • Maintain documentation and collaborate on special projects.

What You Will Do:
  • Build strong relationships with First Nations clients to support the implementation of Financial Administration Laws (FALs) and preparation for Financial Management System (FMS) certification.
  • Meet with clients to understand their needs and identify priorities for Human Resources support and training.
  • Provide guidance, tools, and practical support to help clients strengthen their Human Resources practices.
  • Develop Human Resources support plans that align with client goals and organizational needs.
  • Support performance management, employee development, and succession planning initiatives.
  • Create and update job descriptions and assist clients with implementing changes to roles and responsibilities.
  • Help establish effective processes for managing, storing, and protecting Human Resources records.
  • Develop Human Resources resources and templates, including forms, work plans, and performance review tools.
  • Deliver training and learning opportunities on Human Resources practices, job design, performance management, and recordkeeping.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, collaborate with colleagues to improve services, and contribute to special projects as assigned.
Who You Are:
  • A degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CPHR designation is preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Human Resources; leadership experience is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of Human Resources practices, employment legislation, and workplace policies.
  • Experience developing Human Resources programs, processes, and tools that support organizational goals.
  • Comfortable using Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), Microsoft 365, and other workplace technology.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with a variety of people.
  • Skilled at handling sensitive information with professionalism, sound judgment, and discretion.
  • Organized and adaptable, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and solve problems proactively.
  • Experience working with First Nations governments, Indigenous organizations, or Indigenous communities is a strong asset.
  • Must be fluent in English and French (spoken and written)
  • Willing to travel including to remote locations and able to work outside regular business hours
