Job summary

First Nations Financial Management Board (FMB) seeks an experienced Project Manager for a contract position ending March 31, 2028. You will lead complex projects for First Nations clients, manage budgets, timelines, and multi-stakeholder teams, and drive governance and financial reporting improvements.

The role requires a PMP designation, 7–10 years of experience, and strong communication skills. Hybrid work options are available, with a focus on delivering high-impact outcomes across Canada.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Management, Project Management, Accounting, or related field.
  • PMP designation required.
  • 7–10 years of progressively responsible project management experience.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting, audit readiness, budgeting and governance.
  • Experience with First Nations or Indigenous organizations preferred.
  • Fluent in English; French an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the main point of contact for First Nations clients, accounting firms, contractors, and internal teams throughout project delivery.
  • Lead projects from planning to completion, managing timelines, budgets, resources, and deliverables.
  • Assess project scope, feasibility, risks, and costs to support informed decision‑making.
  • Monitor project budgets, expenses, invoices, and resource requirements to keep projects on track.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Track project progress, prepare status reports, and provide regular updates to clients and leadership.
  • Identify project risks and challenges and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Lead project meetings, gather feedback, and identify opportunities to improve outcomes.
  • Coordinate and oversee contractors and service providers, including onboarding and performance monitoring.
  • Ensure projects are delivered following established PM practices and quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and reporting throughout lifecycle.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying process/tool enhancements.

What You Will Do:

  • Maintain accurate project documentation, records, and reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance processes, tools, and service delivery.
Who You Are:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Management, Project Management, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation required.
  • CPA designation is considered an asset.
  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressive experience managing complex projects, preferably within financial reporting, accounting, audit, consulting, public sector, or professional services environments.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting, audit readiness, financial governance, and budget management principles.
  • Experience working with First Nations governments, Indigenous organizations, or Indigenous‑led initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience managing contractors, consultants, professional service providers, and multi‑stakeholder projects.
  • Experience leading change management and implementation initiatives within a project environment.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Office applications; experience with Power BI and project management software is an asset.
  • Strong ability to identify, manage, and communicate project risks, issues, and mitigation strategies.
  • Experience preparing and presenting reports, recommendations, and project updates to senior leadership, executives, and governance bodies.
  • Excellent analytical, financial, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, stakeholders, and partners.
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Proven ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism, tact, and discretion.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken; French language skills are an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
