Job summary

First Nations Financial Management Board (FMB) in Canada seeks an experienced Human Resources professional to support clients and strengthen HR practices. You will lead HR initiatives, guide HRIS usage, and develop templates and processes that align with client goals and governance standards.

Fluency in English and French is required; travel including remote locations is expected. The role offers flexible hours, a competitive salary, optional bonus potential, and a pension plan with employer

Qualifications

  • Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • CPHR designation preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of HR experience; leadership experience is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of HR practices, employment laws, and workplace policies.
  • Experience developing HR programs, processes, and tools that support organizational goals.
  • Proficient with HRIS and Microsoft 365.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Willing to travel including remote locations and outside regular hours.

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with First Nations clients to support HR practices.
  • Meet with clients to identify HR support needs and training priorities.
  • Provide guidance, tools, and practical HR support.
  • Develop HR support plans aligned with client goals.
  • Support performance management, employee development, and succession planning.
  • Create and update job descriptions and assist with role changes.
  • Establish processes for managing HR records securely.
  • Develop HR templates, forms, and performance tools.
  • Deliver training on HR practices, job design, and recordkeeping.
  • Maintain documentation and collaborate on service improvements.

What You Will Do:
  • Build strong relationships with First Nations clients to support the implementation of Financial Administration Laws (FALs) and preparation for Financial Management System (FMS) certification.
  • Meet with clients to understand their needs and identify priorities for Human Resources support and training.
  • Provide guidance, tools, and practical support to help clients strengthen their Human Resources practices.
  • Develop Human Resources support plans that align with client goals and organizational needs.
  • Support performance management, employee development, and succession planning initiatives.
  • Create and update job descriptions and assist clients with implementing changes to roles and responsibilities.
  • Help establish effective processes for managing, storing, and protecting Human Resources records.
  • Develop Human Resources resources and templates, including forms, work plans, and performance review tools.
  • Deliver training and learning opportunities on Human Resources practices, job design, performance management, and recordkeeping.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, collaborate with colleagues to improve services, and contribute to special projects as assigned.
Who You Are:
  • A degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CPHR designation is preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Human Resources; leadership experience is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of Human Resources practices, employment legislation, and workplace policies.
  • Experience developing Human Resources programs, processes, and tools that support organizational goals.
  • Comfortable using Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), Microsoft 365, and other workplace technology.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with a variety of people.
  • Skilled at handling sensitive information with professionalism, sound judgment, and discretion.
  • Organized and adaptable, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and solve problems proactively.
  • Experience working with First Nations governments, Indigenous organizations, or Indigenous communities is a strong asset.
  • Must be fluent in English and French (spoken and written)
  • Willing to travel including to remote locations and able to work outside regular business hours
