Job description

Caron & Partners LLP is a mid-sized Calgary law firm dedicated to providing clients with quality legal services and strategic counselling for over 55 years. We offer a broad range of legal services in various practice areas.

We are seeking an HR Professional to support human resources and office administration for the firm. The successful candidate will manage recruiting and onboarding, administer benefits, coordinate performance and salary review processes, support employee relations, and assist with compliant offboarding and termination administration.

Duties and responsibilities, but not limited to:
  • Prepare job descriptions and postings,
  • Post jobs on various job boards and manage posting budgets as necessary,
  • Pre-screen resumes and conduct preliminary interviews,
  • Coordinate the scheduling of interviews and prepare any necessary accommodations,
  • Liaise with candidates throughout the hiring process, proactively keeping candidates informed and up to date,
  • Draft offer letters using existing templates,
  • Maintain a database of potential candidates for future opportunities; nurture relationships and networks to help build a candidate pool.
Onboarding, Benefits, and Terminations
  • Onboarding all new hires, including pre-hire activities, first day, first week, and so forth,
  • Correspond with new hires to coordinate the completion of new hire paperwork and create welcome packets for all incoming new hires;
  • Administer (initial setup/liaison/terminate) benefits for employees and lawyers,
  • Carry out the termination and off-boarding tasks for terminated employees and lawyers, ensuring system access and assets are removed/returned, and proper documentation has been completed.
Compensation
  • Maintain all compensation data for existing firm employees
  • Administer staff compensation, including new hire compensation, annual performance evaluations, bonuses, etc.
Organizational Culture/Employee Engagement
  • Coordinate training courses for support staff,
  • Monitor staff and lawyers’ attendance, vacations and other absences from the office,
  • Address performance issues such as attendance, conflicts, requests for time off and coverage issues,
  • Research/organize firm service awards,
  • Organize activities for the employees and lawyers to engage and stay connected,
  • Arrange Firm events.
Analytics and Administration
  • Maintain all employees' records, documents, and other required employment documents and adhere to retention and storage legal requirements,
  • Ensure the firm remains compliant with applicable Employment Standards and any other employment regulations.
  • Creating, updating and enforcing the firm's policies and procedures,
  • Oversee records management,
  • Oversee inventory of office stationery, business cards, stamps and kitchen supplies,
  • Responsible for Library inventory and purchases.
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary diploma or Degree in Human Resources or Organizational Behaviour/equivalent experience
  • A minimum of two years of experience in an HR role in a professional services firm, preferably in the legal industry
  • Comprehensive knowledge of employment-related laws, standards, and regulations
  • Strong ethics and reliability
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Strong ability to remain organized and manage time effectively

Salary commensurate with experience.
