Jobtailor in Calgary, AB, is recruiting an experienced HR leader to direct all human resources activities for an airport operation with under 600 team members. You will manage the full employee lifecycle, partner with Operations leaders, and ensure policies align with legal and company standards.

The role requires 5+ years in HR with leadership experience, and prefers SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification; on-site work five days a week with potential travel.

Qualifications

  • Combination of educational and professional experience must exceed 5 years.
  • Leadership role: 2–4 years leading a team of HR professionals.
  • Technical role: 5–7 years of HR experience in hospitality/retail sectors.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field can count for three of the five-year requirement.
  • An MBA or a master’s level degree can count for an additional two years of the five-year requirement.
  • 3–5 years of Hospitality, Food, Beverage, and/or Retail experience preferred.
  • SHRM-SCP or HRCI-SPHR certification preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of recruiting, employee relations, labor relations, training and development.
  • In-depth knowledge of HR policies and employment regulations.
  • Proficiency with HRIS and MS Office; ability to learn new systems quickly.

Responsibilities

  • Direct HR activities for airport or cluster of locations with fewer than 600 team members.
  • Manage the full team member lifecycle, including attraction, selection, onboarding, engagement, development, retention, and offboarding.
  • Advise Operations leaders on policies, engagement, training, and performance management.
  • Provide HR policy guidance and interpretation to team members at all levels.
  • Analyze business trends and use strategic planning tools and processes.
  • Recommend and implement strategies and tactical solutions to improve the business.
  • Address team member relations issues proactively and advise management on risk reduction and compliance.
  • Conduct confidential employee investigations and prepare detailed documentation.
  • Establish and maintain positive labor relations and help Operations managers understand the CBA.
  • Participate in arbitrations, grievances, and contract negotiations.
  • Lead change initiatives and promote continuous engagement, learning, and development.
  • Ensure HR practices comply with company policy and legal requirements.
  • Partner with corporate People & Culture and Legal to resolve matters.
  • Maintain current knowledge of HR, regulatory, statutory, food and beverage, and retail operations trends.
  • Report to the Regional Director of People & Culture Operations.

  • An MBA or a master’s level degree in a program related to the functional area can count for an additional two years of the five-year requirement
  • 3-5 years of Hospitality, Food, Beverage, and/or Retail experience preferred
  • SHRM-SCP or HRCI-SPHR certification preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of recruiting, employee relations, labor relations, training and development, benefits, and compensation
  • In-depth understanding of HR policies and practices
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant state and federal employment regulations and statutes
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion
  • Ability to read and comprehend correspondence, policies, and legal documents and translate them concisely
  • Ability to build collaborative partnerships and work cross-functionally
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including documents, spreadsheets, and presentations
  • Proficiency with HRIS and business software/systems; ability to quickly learn new systems
  • Flexibility and adaptability to manage multiple projects and local and/or remote direct reports
  • Demonstrated history of creating and maintaining positive work environments through coaching, developing, and leading teams
  • Business acumen and mindset
  • Requires on-site attendance five days per week
  • May require up to 50% travel
