Job description

At Scribd (pronounced “scribbed”), our mission is to spark human curiosity. Join our team as we create a world of stories and knowledge, democratize the exchange of ideas and information, and empower collective expertise through our three products: Everand, Scribd, and Slideshare.

We support a culture where our employees can be real and be bold; where we debate and commit as we embrace plot twists; and where every employee is empowered to take action as we prioritize the customer.

When it comes to workplace structure, we believe in balancing individual flexibility and community connections. It’s through our flexible work benefit, Scribd Flex, that employees – in partnership with their manager – can choose the daily work-style that best suits their individual needs. A key tenet of Scribd Flex is our prioritization of intentional in-person moments to build collaboration, culture, and connection. For this reason, occasional in-person attendance is required for all Scribd employees, regardless of their location.

So what are we looking for in new team members? Well, we hire for “GRIT”. The textbook definition of GRIT is demonstrating the intersection of passion and perseverance towards long term goals. At Scribd, we are inspired by the potential that this can unlock, and ask each of our employees to pursue a GRIT-ty approach to their work. In a tactical sense, GRIT is also a handy acronym that outlines the standards we hold ourselves and each other to. Here’s what that means for you: we’re looking for someone who showcases the ability to set and achieve Goals, achieve Results within their job responsibilities, contribute Innovative ideas and solutions, and positively influence the broader Team through collaboration and attitude.

About the role and the team

Scribd is a global company of 300+ employees and growing rapidly. We are looking for a HR Business Partner to strategically partner with managers and support the execution of key HR programs and initiatives. As a trusted partner, you will anticipate business needs, build strong relationships, and provide insights and solutions that enhance performance, engagement, and organizational effectiveness. This role will sit within the HR team, reporting to Scribd’s Senior Manager, HRBP. Working closely with members of the HR team and broader People team, this role will support the execution of HR initiatives across the organization including, but not limited to performance management, coaching, employee relations, compensation, engagement and retention, career development, and benefits.

About you

You are one who thrives in a fast-moving, quickly changing atmosphere. You have experience as a strategic partner to business leaders, providing guidance and support on all aspects of human resources management to help drive company success in the fast-paced and competitive tech industry. You understand the need to move quickly and wear many hats when required. You're a creative, out-of-the-box thinker, with strong influencing skills, who is willing to take risks to help us build and scale.

Responsibilities / What you will do

  • Act as a trusted strategic partner to managers across the organization, providing proactive coaching and expert guidance on key HR areas, including organizational design, employee relations, performance management, compensation, learning and development, and HR policies.
  • Empower managers with effective performance management strategies, helping them navigate performance challenges and build high-performing teams.
  • Lead employee relations efforts, conducting workplace investigations and conflict resolution with fairness, consistency, and a focus on positive outcomes.
  • Play a key role in shaping and driving key HR Programs and initiatives—such as talent reviews, succession planning, and internal training—by contributing to their design, execution, and ongoing evolution.
  • Leverage HR analytics and workforce insights to identify trends, anticipate challenges, and recommend data-driven solutions that enhance decision-making and improve employee experience.
  • Facilitate leadership training programs to cultivate a high performance culture.
  • Partner with members of the HR Team to support the execution of the compensation and performance cycle. Collaborate across teams to lead impactful, cross-functional HR initiatives that strengthen employee retention, satisfaction, and career development.
  • Be a culture champion, fostering an inclusive, high-performance workplace that reflects our values and supports business success.

You Have / We're looking for / Requirements

  • You have 4-6+ years of relevant HR Generalist/Business Partner experience in a fast-paced, agile environment.
  • You are able to think like a consultant, communicate like a coach and advise both managers and individual contributors across the entire organization.
  • Strong ability to build relationships and influence at all levels of the organization.
  • You are tenacious and refuse to stop at anything less than exceptional.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with tactical execution, adapting to changing business needs.
  • You act without being told what to do – proactively getting things done.
  • You confidently, yet respectfully, handle tough conversations.
  • You are a skilled communicator – in pen and voice – phone or live; you make the right points with clarity.
  • You have strong knowledge of Employment law and practices and execute them with confidence, specifically you are experienced in CA Employment law.
  • You enjoy fast paced growth and change, easily adapting to changing priorities.
  • You have a Bachelor’s degree; additional HR related certifications or degrees a plus.
  • You are familiar with various HR systems and have experience working in a Mac environment using G-Suite.
