We are seeking an inspired, experienced leader to work alongside our Interim Head of People to architect and drive a high-performance and engaging People and Culture practice at Formula Fig. This newly created role will report to the Interim VP, People and will be critical in shaping Formula Fig’s distinctive culture as the company grows.
Role Summary:
As an HRBP, you will play a strategic role in shaping and implementing people programs that positively impact the employee experience and drive business outcomes. Partnering closely with leaders in both the Support Office and our Fig Bars (retail), you will provide guidance on organizational design, talent strategy, performance management, employee relations and employee engagement. You will act as a trusted advisor, ensuring people programs align with business needs while fostering a culture of inclusivity and equity. This work starts internally with our employees and extends externally to our community.
You’ll help shape the design of people-first policies, practices, and processes—and work closely with the Director, Retail and the Interim, VP People to bring them to life. Acting as a thoughtful coach and strategic partner, you’ll offer clear options and practical guidance on everyday people matters and new challenges as they emerge. From resolving employee concerns with care and discretion to supporting internal change with crisp communications, you’re there. Most of all, you lead with empathy—ensuring every touchpoint with Formula Fig feels warm, human, and deeply considered.
Key Responsibilities:
Recruiting and Retention:
- Recruitment and Retention: Work alongside the Talent Acquisition Specialist to develop and implement strategies for attracting, hiring, and retaining top talent.
- Performance Management: Oversee performance and coaching systems/process to ensure employees receive feedback and development opportunities.
- Succession Planning: Identify and develop a bench of candidates for leadership within our Fig Bars. Work closely with Director, Retail to build out a development plan for Fig Bar leadership to ensure we have the right people, at the right time for new roles and unexpected vacancies.
- Provide day to day performance management guidance to leaders at all levels of the organization
Employee Relations:
- Primary Point of Contact: Act as the primary point of contact for leaders from our Fig Bars and Support Office to support them with people related questions and concerns. Be a visible representative of the People and Culture function to Fig Bars regularly connecting with Fig Bar Managers, spending time in Fig Bars and promotion people and culture initiatives.
- Conflict Resolution: Address and resolve employee conflicts
- Employee Engagement: Develop programs to enhance employee engagement and satisfaction.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with labor laws and regulations in the markets in which we operate (Los Angeles, Vancouver and Toronto)
Learning and Development:
- Training Programs: Design and implement training and development programs to enhance employee skills and career growth.
- Leadership Development: Provide coaching and development for leaders and managers.
Payroll Management:
- Owns biweekly U.S. & Canada payroll processing and partners to ensure accurate, timely payroll for all employees, including coordination year-end tax documentation (W-2s, T4s)
- Coordinates employment verifications and other employment documentation requests, such as ROEs
HR Systems and Analytics:
- HR System Management: Owns employee lifecycle administration in BambooHR, including onboarding, job and other data changes, and terminations—ensuring data integrity and compliance from hire to exit
- Data Analysis: Use HR metrics and data to drive decision-making and improve HR processes.
- Reporting: Generate reports on HR metrics and present findings to senior management.
- Analyze trends and metrics and develop solutions, programs and policies.
Policy Development and Implementation:
- Policy Creation: Develop, implement, and update HR policies and procedures.
- Compliance Audits: Conduct regular audits to ensure policies are adhered to and comply with legal standards.
Culture and Employee Experience:
- Cultural Initiatives: Inspire all employees to #giveafig by developing and championing internal development initiatives
- Diversity and Inclusion: Champion diversity and inclusion initiatives to create a diverse and inclusive workplace.
Project Management
- People and Culture Projects: Lead and manage people and culture projects, such as system implementations, policy or process changes and roll outs and more.
Required Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in an HRBP role within retail, wellness, hospitality or working with a geographically dispersed, hourly workforce
- Strong knowledge of North American labor laws and compliance regulations.
- Experience in employee relations supporting a geographically dispersed, hourly population
- Ability to manage complex HR projects, implement strategic initiatives, and drive process improvements.
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to partner effectively with hourly employees, retail managers and Support Office leadership
- Strong analytical mindset with experience in HR metrics, reporting, and data-driven decision-making..
What to expect in your first year in the role:
- Your first 90 days: During your first 90 days, you’ll spend time with the Company's Senior Leadership Team, Retail Leadership, and members across Formula Fig's Support Office and stores to learn how each function contributes to our business. You’ll work alongside our Fig Bar Managers, Guest Experience Associates, Guest Concierge Associates and Skin Educators to learn how we provide an immersive experience to our valued guests. You’ll have dedicated time with the Interim Head of People, Chief Financial Officer, and Interim, Sr. Manager, People Operations to understand the current state of people operations, HR systems, payroll and employee programs and policies. You will jump in to coordinate and manage our external payroll partners by ensuring that BambooHR data is up to date and that our Fig Bar Managers have clear processes for reviewing and submitting accurate and timely employee timesheets. Under your leadership, payroll is running smoothly with minimal need for corrections or off cycle processes. Once you’ve completed your robust onboarding, you’ll work closely with the Interim Head of People to begin building out your OKRs for the coming quarters.
- Months 3 to 6: Now that you’ve developed a deeper understanding for Formula Fig’s brand you’ll be working on optimizing workflows through use of tools like Bamboo, Asana and Slack. You will have developed strong relationships with our Director, Retail and Fig Bar Managers acting as the primary point of contact for employee HR queries and support for Fig Bar Managers. You’ve identified trends in the employee lifecycle through reviewing turnover and performance data and tracking employee and manager questions. Synthesizing this data you make informed recommendations on process and program updates which you will lead and champion within the organization. You are using your knowledge of Formula Fig to enhance Support Office recruiting and onboarding processes.
- Months 6 to 12: You have successfully built and developed Formula Fig’s annual performance cycle for SO and Fig Bars. You use the data to develop and maintain succession plans for key roles across the organization. You’ve built out your 2026 roadmap and have made significant progress against the OKRs established for 2025. You have built out and are leading a development series for Fig Bar Managers to support them in developing their leadership and confidence in handling employee questions and concerns.
