Job summary

Sienna Senior Living in Canada is seeking a Hospitality Cook to join our resident-focused team. You will set up equipment, prepare meals and snacks according to menus, and ensure diets and portions meet prescribed standards.

You will work under the guidance of the team leader, maintaining food quality, assisting in training new staff, and supporting a culture of dignity and respect for residents. Must have Grade 12 and Safe Food Handling and/or Smart Serve certificates; healthcare or hospitality

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 minimum education required.
  • Valid Safe Food Handling and/or Smart Serve certificates.
  • Experience cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality settings.

Responsibilities

  • Set up equipment and supplies for food preparation.
  • Prepare meals and snacks according to production sheets and recipes.
  • Provide for prescribed diets, at appropriate temperatures and in portion controlled quantities.
  • Monitor quality of food supplies and advise team leader of problems and make recommendations.
  • In the absence of the team leader, assume responsibility for departmental operations including menu changes as necessary, requisitions and purchases food and other supplies from authorized suppliers.
  • Assisting in the orientation and training of new team members.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

As a Hospitality Cook, your typical day will impact in the following ways:

  • Setting up equipment and supplies for food preparation
  • Preparing meals and snacks according to production sheets, recipes and other menu document as provided
  • Providing for prescribed diets, at appropriate temperatures and in portion controlled quantities
  • Monitoring quality of food supplies received and advises team leader of problems and makes recommendations about corrective action
  • In the absence of the team leader, assumes responsibility for departmental operations including menu changes as necessary, requisitions and purchases food and other supplies from authorized suppliers
  • Assisting in the orientation and training of new team members
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Must haves:

  • Grade 12 minimum education required
  • A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and/or Smart Serve certificate
  • Experience with cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude necessary to meet the goals and standards of the residence
  • All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Vulnerable Sector Check. Applicable to Ontario applicants
  • All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Criminal Records Check. Applicable to British Columbia applicants

Bonus points for having:

  • Graduate of a recognized college food preparation program and willing to Red Seal certify
