Job summary

Aspira Heatherwood Retirement Living in Niagara Region is seeking a Casual Cook to prepare nutritious, high-quality meals while respecting residents' dietary needs and cultural preferences. You will help create enjoyable dining experiences and contribute to a caring, resident-focused culture.

The role requires Grade 12, Safe Food Handling and/or Smart Serve certificates, and prior cooking experience in institutional or healthcare settings.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 minimum education required.
• Safe Food Handling and/or Smart Serve certificates.
• Experience cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality settings.
• Legally eligible to work in Canada and able to pass a Vulnerable Sector Check.

Responsibilities

• Prepare nutritious, high-quality meals in a fast-paced kitchen.
• Follow recipes, production sheets, and menu guidelines.
• Meet dietary requirements, maintain food temperatures and portion control.

As a Cook, you will prepare nutritious, high-quality meals while gaining an understanding of residents’ dietary needs, preferences, and cultural considerations. You will contribute to creating enjoyable dining experiences that support residents’ health and well-being. As an individual and part of a wider team, you will be a strong contributor to the culture of the home, where the focus is always on helping residents live fully, every day.

What makes you a great fit?

• You have hands-on experience preparing meals and snacks in a fast-paced kitchen, following recipes, production sheets, and menu guidelines.
• You understand the importance of meeting prescribed dietary requirements, proper food temperatures, and portion control while maintaining high quality standards.
• Monitoring quality of food supplies received and advises team leader of problems and makes recommendations about corrective action
• In the absence of the team leader, assumes responsibility for departmental operations including menu changes as necessary, requisitions and purchases food and other supplies from authorized suppliers

What You Need To Know

• Grade 12 minimum education required
• A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and/or Smart Serve certificate
• Experience with cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality
• You must be legally eligible to work in Canada or have a valid work/study permit
• You must successfully pass a Vulnerable Sector Check
