Job summary

Sienna Senior Living is seeking a Hospitality Cook to join our care community. You will set up kitchen operations, prepare meals per recipes, and ensure diets and temperatures meet residents' needs while maintaining food quality.

You will help train new staff and support the team in daily operations within a senior living residence. The role requires Grade 12, Safe Food Handling and/or Smart Serve certificates, and prior cooking experience in care, hospital, or hospitality settings.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 minimum education required.
• A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and/or Smart Serve certificate.
• Experience cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant or hospitality.
• Positive attitude to meet residence goals and standards.
• Vulnerable Sector Check and Criminal Records Check required where applicable.

Responsibilities

• Set up equipment and supplies for food preparation.
• Prepare meals and snacks according to production sheets and recipes.
• Provide for prescribed diets at proper temperatures and portions.
• Monitor quality of food and advise on corrective actions.
• In absence of the team lead, manage departmental operations and ordering.
• Assist in orienting and training new team members.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

As a Hospitality Cook, your typical day will impact in the following ways:

• Setting up equipment and supplies for food preparation
• Preparing meals and snacks according to production sheets, recipes and other menu document as provided
• Providing for prescribed diets, at appropriate temperatures and in portion controlled quantities
• Monitoring quality of food supplies received and advises team leader of problems and makes recommendations about corrective action
• In the absence of the team leader, assumes responsibility for departmental operations including menu changes as necessary, requisitions and purchases food and other supplies from authorized suppliers
• Assisting in the orientation and training of new team members
• Performing other duties as assigned

Must Haves

• Grade 12 minimum education required
• A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and/or Smart Serve certificate
• Experience with cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality
• Demonstrates a positive attitude necessary to meet the goals and standards of the residence
• All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Vulnerable Sector Check. Applicable to Ontario applicants
• All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Criminal Records Check. Applicable to British Columbia applicants

Bonus Points For Having

• Graduate of a recognized college food preparation program and willing to Red Seal certify
