Job summary

Sienna Senior Living is seeking a Cook for Creedan Valley Community in Creemore, Ontario. The position supports residents by preparing meals, following menus, and ensuring safe, nutritious service. A focus on comfort, dignity and resident well‑being drives daily tasks.

Ideal candidates hold Grade 12 and Safe Food Handling or Smart Serve certificates, with prior institutional or healthcare cooking experience. Compliance with background checks and eligibility to work in Canada is required.

Qualifications

  • Must have Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Safe Food Handling and/or Smart Serve certificates required.
  • Experience cooking in institutional/healthcare settings preferred.
  • Demonstrates positive attitude and reliability.
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada; background check may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Set up equipment and supplies for food preparation.
  • Prepare meals according to recipes and production sheets.
  • Serve meals within prescribed diets and portion sizes.
  • Monitor quality of food supplies and report issues.
  • In supervisor's absence, manage department operations and ordering.
  • Assist in training new team members; perform other duties as assigned.

As a Cook your typical day will impact in the following ways:
  • Setting up equipment and supplies for food preparation
  • Preparing meals and snacks according to production sheets, recipes and other menu document as provided
  • Providing for prescribed diets, at appropriate temperatures and in portion controlled quantities
  • Monitoring quality of food supplies received and advises team leader of problems and makes recommendations about corrective action
  • In the absence of the team leader, assumes responsibility for departmental operations including enu changes as necessary, requisitions and purchases food and other supplies from authorized suppliers
  • Assisting in the orientation and training of new team members
  • Performing other duties as assigned
Must haves:
  • Grade 12 minimum education required
  • A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and/or Smart Serve certificate
  • Experience with cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude necessary to meet the goals and standards of the residence
  • You must be legally eligible to work in Canada or have a valid work permit
  • You must successfully pass a Vulnerable Sector Check and/or Criminal Record Check applicable to the appropriate province
Additional qualifications that would be considered an asset:
  • Graduate of a recognized college food preparation program and willing to Red Seal certify
