Job summary

Sanctum provides transition, respite, and palliative care to HIV-positive individuals in Saskatoon. The Home Support Worker delivers patient-centered care to residents who may have mental illness, addictions, poverty, or other challenges, embracing harm-reduction principles.

This role covers all shifts—days, evenings, and nights—and includes duties from personal care and medication support to meal planning and household tasks, with a focus on safety and dignity.

Qualifications

  • Harm Reduction & Trauma Informed Care experience is required.
  • Mental health and addictions understanding is essential.
  • Cultural sensitivity and respectful client interactions are necessary.
  • Clear communication, teamwork, and relationship-building abilities.
  • Strong decision-making across varied situations.
  • Degree/diploma or certificate in social work, care aid, addictions, or related field.
  • Active CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • Food Safety, WHMIS, and TLR certifications required.
  • Naloxone training is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care and hygiene support to residents.
  • Assist with medication adherence and documentation.
  • Maintain confidential resident files accurately.
  • Follow medical instructions carefully and consistently.
  • Aid in meal preparation and planning.
  • Perform household duties such as cleaning and maintenance.
  • Manage unanticipated events or unstable situations.
