Job summary

Newo Yotina Friendship Centre is hiring a Harm Reduction Support Worker to assist in providing services at the centre's Safe Consumption Site in Regina. You will supervise IV drug use, test drugs, educate on Naloxone use and safer drug practices, and refer clients to appropriate services.

Ideal candidates have Grade 12, 1-2 years experience in harm reduction, and First Aid with CPR and AED. Training in PART/ASIST/WHMIS is a plus; a compassionate, non-judgmental approach is essential.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education is required.
  • First Aid with CPR and AED.
  • Combination of relevant work and lived experience considered equally to education.
  • Experience with harm reduction and services for clients with complex social needs.
  • Knowledge of Regina's social, cultural, mental health and addiction resources.

Responsibilities

  • Develop rapport and build trust with people accessing services.
  • Provide internal and external referrals to medical and social services.
  • Assist Harm Reduction Paramedic with intakes and assessments.
  • Assist in responding to medical emergencies.
  • Assist with centre operations and greet visitors.
  • Answer phone calls and inquiries.
  • Maintain hygienic, safe environment following infection control procedures.

Qualifications
  • First Aid with CPR and AED.
  • Certificate or Diploma in mental health or addictions are considered assets.
  • Combination of relevant work and lived experience considered equally to education.
  • Professional Assault Response Training (PART), ASIST, WHIMIS, TLR, TDG certifications are considered assets. (Training is available)
  • Thorough understanding and commitment to Harm Reduction.
  • Thorough understanding of and experience working in programs serving clients with complex social needs including homelessness, mental health issues, addictions, and history of trauma.
  • Knowledge of various social, cultural, mental health and addiction support services available in the city of Regina.
  • Good judgement, discretion, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
