Job summary

Kaizen Lab Inc. in Truro, NS invites applications for the HIPPY Home Visitor position. This part-time, seasonal role supports newcomer families through a structured preschool curriculum, with weekly home visits and group activities.

Immediate start date and up to 20 hours per week. Access to YMCA benefits included. Responsibilities include delivering the HIPPY curriculum, recruiting eligible families, conducting weekly visits, and coordinating with a HIPPY Coordinator, while maintaining records

Qualifications

  • Newcomer to Canada and legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Parent of a three-, four-, or five-year-old child (preferred).
  • Resident of the targeted community.
  • Functional oral and written communication skills, including strong reading ability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, etc.).
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of the newcomer settlement process.
  • Familiarity with community programs and services that support families.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience working in cross-cultural environments.
  • Experience in outreach work.
  • Demonstrated discretion and sound judgment when handling confidential information.
  • Flexibility to work outside regular business hours when required.
  • ValidNova Scotia Driver’s License and reliable vehicle (essential).

Responsibilities

  • Deliver the HIPPY curriculum to participating families.
  • Recruit eligible newcomer families into the program.
  • Conduct weekly home visits (including make-up visits when required) using role-play activities.
  • Support the planning and facilitation of parent group meetings.
  • Participate in weekly in-service training and staff development activities.
  • Keep the HIPPY Coordinator informed of child/family progress and emerging concerns.
  • Complete and submit required reports and documentation in a timely manner.
  • Participate in sponsored HIPPY activities (field trips, graduations, etc.).
  • Support record-keeping systems and complete data entry related to program operations.

About the Program

The HIPPY program supports newcomer families by introducinga structured, parent-led preschool curriculum designed to prepare children forschool success. Through weekly home visits and group meetings, Home Visitorsempower parents with the skills and confidence to guide their child’s earlylearning and development.

In this role, you will:

All successful candidates must provide a Criminal RecordCheck, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Abuse Register Check (dated within 6months), if 18 years of age or older. Background checks are reviewedindividually and assessed in relation to the role and Child Safeguardingrequirements.
