Job summary

YMCA is hiring a YPHD Programmer to deliver safe, engaging before- and after-school programming at multiple school sites. You’ll supervise children, guide activities, and ensure compliance with provincial program requirements and safeguarding standards.

You will build strong relationships with families and collaborate with a supportive team to create inclusive, quality experiences. The role emphasizes wellbeing, healthy lifestyles, and positive learning through play.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum one year of childcare experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and a positive approach.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and participate in developmentally appropriate programming for children.
  • Create inclusive indoor/outdoor learning environments that support growth.
  • Use teaching strategies to support children's learning and development.
  • Maintain a safe, welcoming environment with active supervision.
  • Complete attendance, documentation, incident reports and family communications.
  • Build positive relationships with children, families, colleagues, and partners.
  • Represent YMCA values and comply with safeguarding standards and policies.
  • Submit timesheets and payroll documentation by deadlines.
  • Provide coverage at other program locations as needed.
  • Communicate program updates and needs to the Site Coordinator.

Program: YMCA Physical Healthy Development (YPHD)Before & After School

Position Status: Full-Time and Part-Time ContractPositions (September 2026 – June 2027)

Compensation: $17.00–$17.50 per hour

About the Role

Reporting to the Site Coordinator, the YPHD Programmeris responsible for delivering high-quality before and after school programmingthat creates a safe, inclusive, engaging, and nurturing environment wherechildren can learn, grow, and thrive.

The Programmer ensures compliance with YMCA policies andprocedures, Provincial Before and After Program (BAP) requirements, and ChildSafeguarding standards while actively supervising children and facilitatingmeaningful learning experiences through play. This role also supports theday-to-day operation of the program by maintaining a safe environment, buildingpositive relationships with children and families, and contributing to theoverall success of the site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan,implement, and actively participate in engaging, developmentallyappropriate programming that supports children's physical, social,emotional, and cognitive development while promoting healthy, activelifestyles.
  • Create,implement, and evaluate inclusive indoor and outdoor learning environmentsthat encourage curiosity, independence, positive self-concept, andlearning through play.
  • Usea variety of teaching strategies—including modelling, observing,questioning, demonstrating, and positive reinforcement—to supportchildren's learning and development.
  • Maintaina safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment through active supervisionand by ensuring the health, safety, and wellbeing of all children.
  • Completerequired administrative responsibilities accurately and on time, includingattendance records, child documentation, incident reports, and familycommunications.
  • Buildpositive and respectful relationships with children, families, colleagues,and community partners.
  • Contributeto a collaborative team environment by demonstrating YMCA leadershipcompetencies and fostering a culture of belonging and inclusion.
  • RepresentYMCA values while complying with all YMCA policies, Child Safeguardingstandards, Provincial Before and After Program requirements, licensingregulations, and Occupational Health and Safety standards.
  • Submittimesheets and payroll documentation through Payworks by establisheddeadlines.
  • Providecoverage support at other program locations when required.
  • Communicateprogram updates, operational needs, successes, and concerns to the SiteCoordinator in a timely manner.
  • Respondprofessionally to parent and caregiver inquiries, escalating complexconcerns when appropriate.
  • Performother duties as assigned.

Qualifications

We're looking for candidates who have:

  • Highschool diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimumone (1) year of childcare experience with demonstrated success inresponsibilities related to this role.
  • Strongattention to detail.
  • Excellentverbal and written communication skills.
  • Astrong professional reference.

Successful Candidates Must Provide

  • CriminalRecord Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Abuse Register Check(issued within the last six months) if 18 years of age or older.
  • ValidFirst Aid and CPR certification.
  • Successfulcompletion of YMCA Child Safeguarding Training upon hire.
