Job summary

Aecon Utilities in British Columbia is seeking an experienced Substation Electrical Supervisor to lead field crews, coordinate daily activities, and ensure safety and quality in high-voltage substation projects across the province.

The ideal candidate will have a Red Seal Journeyperson Electrician qualification (preferred), 5+ years in high-voltage substation construction, strong leadership and communication skills, and the ability to read electrical drawings and manage subcontractors and

Qualifications

• Diploma in Power Systems Electrician or related electrical discipline, or equivalent experience and certifications.
• Red Seal Journeyperson Electrician is preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in high-voltage substation construction, electrical utility infrastructure, transmission, or distribution projects.
• Supervisory experience leading field crews, subcontractors, or electrical construction teams.
• Strong ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, schematics, and technical specifications.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate field crews involved in installation, maintenance, testing, and commissioning of high-voltage substation equipment.
• Lead daily field activities to ensure work is safe, efficient, and on schedule.
• Coordinate installation of transformers, breakers, switchgear, disconnect switches, control buildings, grounding systems, bus work, and related equipment.
• Monitor workforce productivity, material availability, equipment utilization, and subcontractor performance.
• Conduct daily safety meetings, hazard assessments, inspections, and toolbox talks to promote Safety Always.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, client procedures, and company policies.
• Review electrical drawings and construction packages to guide field execution.
• Coordinate with Project Managers, Engineers, QA/QC, and commissioning teams to support delivery and resolve issues.
