Fort Edmonton Park and the John Walter Museum are looking for an enthusiastic Heritage Education Program Assistant to join our team! In this key operational role, you will help bring history to life across expansive historical spaces by supporting high-volume heritage and education programming. You will play a vital role in supervising, coaching, and onboarding seasonal Education Interpreters while managing daily program logistics, day camps, and group activities. Collaborating across diverse operational departments, you will ensure seamless experiences for visiting school groups, families, and engagement participants. If you excel in dynamic environments, love working outdoors, and enjoy mentoring others, we would love to have you on our team. **What will you do?** * Lead, onboard, coach, and support a dedicated team of Recreation Technician I Education Interpreters * Assist with seasonal recruitment, including interviewing candidates and participating in hiring decisions * Schedule weekly educational programs, Fort School, day camps, birthday parties, and group activities * Manage program supply procurement and administration for all educational initiatives * Review and approve Recreation Technician I timesheets on a biweekly basis * Schedule and support Junior Volunteers during day camp programming, using database software to assign roles based on experience and interest * Collaborate with internal groups (such as Animal Welfare, Sales, Custodial, and Marketing teams) to streamline operations and enhance program experiences * Work alongside the Indigenous and Multicultural Narratives Team to support specialized day camp enhancements and educator workshops * Coordinate day camp and field trip bookings, monitor registration pace, and pull program attendance reports * Serve as an onsite contact to handle program inquiries, assist with child conflict resolution, and maintain positive, professional communication with parents and guardians * Draft social media content for programs * Respond to first aid or operational incidents during programming and complete required reporting promptly * Other related duties as required Qualifications : * Completion of the first year of a recognized degree in Education, History, Native Studies, Arts and Cultural Management, or Recreation * Minimum 1 year of practical experience in teaching, program delivery, interpretation, or a related museum/heritage field **Assets:** * Knowledge and understanding of local and Western Canadian history * Experience using volunteer database software (such as Better Impact) * Experience using program registration databases (such as RAMS/Intelli/MLP) **Skills required for success:** * Strong knowledge of educational curriculum, youth childcare practices, and positive classroom management techniques * Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and support team members in a fast-paced environment * Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills for interacting with team members, community partners, parents, and engagement participants * Strong adaptability and problem-solving skills to manage competing priorities and daily schedule changes * Proficiency with Google Suite and administrative computer tools * Alignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies (https://bit.ly/4brRrXm) * Embracing a culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusion **Conditions of Employment:** * Hire is dependent on Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton, and there may be a cost associated with this requirement * Possession of current Standard First Aid, CPR-C and AED certifications * Applicants may be tested **Work Environment:** * Note: Due to the nature of this work, this position is not eligible for a hybrid work arrangement * The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time.
