Job summary

Heritage Park is seeking a Youth Program Facilitator to supervise and engage participants in day-based programs at our seasonal Education department. You will deliver high-quality, inclusive programming in a welcoming environment for youth, families, and guests.

Reporting to the Education Manager, you will ensure safety, adapt activities for participation, and support program setup. A passion for Western Canadian history is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Experience coordinating or leading youth programs.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR certification required.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and client-facing communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise youth participants in day programs, ensure safety and well-being.
  • Deliver engaging, age-appropriate youth activities and adapt for inclusivity.
  • Assist with setup and takedown of materials and spaces for programs.
  • Support a positive, inclusive program culture and collaborate with volunteers.

Heritage Park is Canada's largest living history museum and offers visitors a chance to experience life in Western Canada from the 1860s to the early 1950s. The Park features historical buildings, costumed interpreters, working antiques, and various exhibits that provide insight into the region's past.

Job Overview

Reporting to the Education Manager and Program Specialist, the YouthProgram Facilitator is responsible for the supervision, safety, and engagement of participants in day-based youth programs.

This role delivers high-quality, inclusive programming while supporting a positive, welcoming environment for youth, families, and guests.

Responsibilities
Camper Supervision & Safety
  • Supervise youth participants in a day program setting, ensuring their safety and well-being
  • Maintain appropriate behavioural standards and provide support to campers as needed
Program Delivery & Engagement
  • Deliver engaging, age-appropriate youth programming
  • Adapt activities as needed to support inclusive participation and positive experiences for all participants
  • Support a welcoming, respectful program culture through positive interactions with campers, families, staff, volunteers, and guests
Program Set Up & Support
  • Assist with the preparation, set-up, and take down of program materials and activity spaces
  • Care for youth program materials and artifacts, ensuring they are organized, functional, and stored appropriately
Organizational Excellence and Wellbeing
  • Contribute to inspiring and immersive experiences at the Park by engaging in Heritage Park initiatives that align with our mission and vision, ensuring authenticity in our historical setting and stories.
  • Actively support a positive work environment by creating an atmosphere of inclusion, engagement, belonging, and fulfillment for employees and volunteers, in line with Heritage Park values.
  • Recognize all contributors to our community as integral to our success, fostering a sense of community and collaboration.

Required Qualifications
  • Experience working in a youth program, camp, or teaching environment is preferred
  • Experience supporting children with disabilities or special needs is considered an asset
  • Interest in and knowledge of the history of Western Canada is considered an asset
  • Standard First Aid and CPR certification required (training provided by the Park if not already certified)
  • Enthusiastic, reliable, and passionate about working with children and youth
  • Demonstrated responsibility, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills in a client-facing environment
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Flexible and adaptable in a fast‑paced program setting
  • All successful candidates (over the age of 18) will be required to complete a Police Information Check as a condition of employment. A criminal record will not automatically disqualify an applicant; any information disclosed will be assessed confidentially on a case‑based basis in accordance with Alberta human rights legislation, considering relevance to the role and our commitment to equitable and inclusive hiring practices.
Special Clothing and Equipment
  • This position will be required to wear appropriate costuming provided by Heritage Park. The costume policy must be adhered to at all times
Special Working Conditions
  • The position will be exposed to weather extremes and will work both indoors and outdoors;
  • This position is physically demanding, and the incumbent must be able to lift heavy items, stand for long periods, and walk throughout the Park for extended periods.
Hours of Work
  • Hours will vary depending on operational needs
  • The Summer Day camp schedule will generally be five consecutive days per week (Monday to Friday).
  • PD Day Camp schedule could include single day camps along with multiple day camps
  • Specialty Program Camps may include single day Programing and evening / weekend Programming
