Job summary

ABC Recycling Ltd. is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator – Material Handler (Wheeled Excavator) to be based at our Burnaby, BC site.

You will operate a large wheeled material handler with a grapple to sort, load, unload, and process scrap metal, while upholding safety and environmental standards in a fast-paced yard. Reporting to the General Manager, you may operate other heavy equipment as required and assist with routine maintenance and pre-trip inspections.

Qualifications

• Experience operating excavators, mobile shears, material handlers, or wheel loaders.
• Scrap metal recycling or demolition experience is a plus.
• Strong safety awareness and commitment to environmental compliance.
• High school diploma or GED required

Responsibilities

• Safely operate a large wheeled material handler and other heavy equipment.
• Process materials to customer specifications.
• Load and unload materials from bins, dumps, trailers, and railcars.
• Assess risk and maintain safety and environmental controls.
• Perform maintenance such as pre-trip inspections and lubrication.
• Self-manage when operating off site

POSITION OVERVIEW

ABC Recycling Ltd. is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator – Material Handler (Wheeled Excavator) to be based out of our Burnaby, BC. location. Reporting to the General Manager, you will operate alarge wheeled material handler (excavator-style machine equipped with a grapple attachment) to sort, load, unload, and process scrap metal in a fast-paced recycling yard. This role also involves operating other heavy equipment as required while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and environmental compliance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Safely operate a large wheeled material handler (grapple excavator) and other heavy equipment to sort, move, and process scrap metal.
• Processesmaterials to customer specifications
• Loads and unloads materials from and into various bins, dumps, trailers, and railcars
• Assess situational risk and mitigate safety and environmental concerns
• Performs maintenance - pre-trip inspections, lubrication, blade alignment and tensioning
• Self-manages when operating off site

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Related training or experience operating different types of excavators, mobile shears, material handlers, and other heavy equipment such as wheel loaders.
• Prior experience with scrap metal recycling and demolition would be a definite asset
• Good interpersonal and customer service skills
• Knowledgeable about general safety practices
• Flexibility with work shifts and ability to travel occasionally
• High school diploma or GED certification

IMPORTANT:

We frequently operate on and service federally regulated customers that require regular and random drug and alcohol screening (including suppliers and contractors). As such, you will also be subject to an initial and then ongoing random drug and alcohol screening as a condition of your employment.
