Job summary

Interpro Recycling, operating under Orion Steel Group, seeks a reliable yard technician to load and unload ferrous materials and manage metals stockpiles at our Winnipeg area site. You will work with yard and scale staff to ensure smooth operations, accurate weights, and clear communication, contributing to a safe, efficient yard environment.

Qualified candidates have at least two years of heavy equipment experience, a valid license, and a strong work ethic.

Qualifications

  • Completion of High School or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience operating heavy motorized equipment in the last 3 years.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License.
  • Knowledge of ferrous metals is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain heavy equipment to load/unload ferrous materials.
  • Coordinate with scale operator and office staff to ensure smooth unloading and traffic flow.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and check fluids to keep equipment in safe condition.
  • Load trucks with accurate weights and communicate with scale personnel.
  • Unload transports safely and clean trailers of excess material.
  • Stockpile and sort metals in designated areas.
  • Use radios to coordinate tasks with yard and scale staff.
  • Maintain logs daily/weekly/monthly as required.

Job Description and Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain heavy motorized equipment to safely and efficiently load and unload ferrous materials.
  • Collaborate with the scale operator and office staff to ensure a smooth unloading process for customers' materials while maintaining a steady flow of traffic in and out of the yard, helping to minimize congestion.
  • Operate heavy motorized equipment used in loading/unloading of ferrous material, including, but not limited to, loaders, cranes, grapple cranes, shears, and other equipment used to support the variety of activities essential to the yard operations.
  • Perform preventative maintenance as required, including checking all fluids to ensure motorized equipment is properly maintained.
  • Loads trucks accurately (proper weights), safely, and efficiently, and communicates via radio to scale personnel for confirmation of material loaded and any issues that may come up.
  • Unload transports with ferrous materials, safely and efficiently, and clean (sweep) trailers of excess material.
  • Stockpile/sort metals and place them in the designated areas.
  • Use hand-held mobile radio devices to coordinate tasks and resources with yard and scale personnel effectively.
  • Maintain accurate logs and records daily, weekly, and monthly, and/or as required by supervision.
Requirements
  • Completion of High School and/or equivalent.
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) consecutive years of experience operating heavy motorized equipment, within the last three (3) years.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License.
  • Knowledge and understanding of ferrous metals and classifications are considered an asset.

  • Communication Skills: communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and/or via mobile radio devices.

  • Self-motivated: initiates and takes action before being required to do so.
  • Strong work ethic: uses time efficiently, works safely, and ensures everyone around him is working safely.
  • Ability to push, pull, and lift materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have reliable transportation as the work site is not accessible by city transit.
